Husqvarna Svartpilen 200 Spied Testing in India; Launch Soon?

Husqvarna has been spied testing their next offering in India – the Svartpilen and Vitpilen 200 – which are based on the KTM Duke 200. These motorcycles could be launched in the market sometime next year.

Husqvarna started their stint in India about six months ago with the Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilen 250. Although the Swedish brand is still yet to strengthen their hold on the Indian market, they already seem to be up on their toes. Very recently, Husqvarna was spotted testing the Svartpilen 200 in Pune, hinting at the launch of the 200cc Huskies in India soon. The spotted test mule was wrapped in camouflage but given the unique styling of Husqvarna motorcycles, it was quite easy to make out what the motorcycle was.

After the 250s, this also seems the most logical way ahead for Husqvarna in India. Just like the Husky 250s are based on the KTM Duke 250, the Husqvarna 200s will be based on the KTM Duke 200. The Duke 200 is one of KTM’s most popular motorcycles in India and that is why, it was most logical for Husqvarna to tap into this segment. Again, just like the 250s, Husqvarna will have two models in the 200cc range – Svartpilen and Vitpilen – the former styled as a cafe racer with sportier ergonomics while the latter is a scrambler-styled motorcycle with a more rugged appeal.

The Husqvarna Svartpilen 200 and the Vitpilen 200 will thus borrow the frame and engine from the KTM Duke 200. The Duke 200 is powered by a 199.5cc single-cylinder engine that churns out 25PS of power and 19.3Nm of torque. The tuning and output of the engine is also expected to be identical on the Husqvarna motorcycles. The engine comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a bi-direction quickshifter as standard and the Duke 200 also gets disc brakes on both wheels with dual-channel ABS. All this equipment will be carried over to the Husqies as well.

The Husqvarna 200s will however not look very different from the 250 siblings. As can be seen in the spy image, the Svartpilen 200 here looks exactly identical to the its bigger sibling. The round headlamps, fuel tank, and all the cycle parts look exactly similar. Even the round digital-instrument cluster is the same. Like the 250s, we expect the differentiation between the Svartpilen and the Vitpilen to be similar as well. The weight of these motorcycles is expected to be below 150 kg, thus aiding both the performance and handling characteristics.

The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401 are also long speculated from the company. These motorcycles are based on the KTM Duke 390 and initially, it was thought that Husqvarna will debut in the Indian market with these motorcycles. It is certainly taking some time for Husqvarna to bring in their bigger motorcycles but it’s more important to first establish the brand in the market properly. Husqvarna got the pricing bang on with the 250s at Rs 1.84 lakh and if they are able to do the same for the 200s, they their fortunes will show up very soon. The price of the Svartpilen 200 and Vitpilen 200 are expected to be around the Rs. 1.6 lakh mark, just a shade below the KTM 200 Duke.
