Kia Sonet Almost Completely Revealed Inside Out in New Spy Shots!

The unveil of the Kia Sonet is just round the corner on August 7, but here’s your most detailed look at the Sonet both inside and out ahead of its debut revealing almost all design details.

The unveil of the Kia Sonet is just round the corner, scheduled for August 7, but ahead of that, the Sonet has been spied testing inside out with minimal camouflage and we can already see several of the design details. The company has already been keeping the excitement up with a couple of teasers and they also revealed the first sketch of the production-spec Kia Sonet sometime ago. But here’s your best look at the Kia Sonet before its globally unveiled.

New Spy shots almost completely reveal the front-end design of the Kia Sonet.

In these new spy pictures, almost the entire front end design of the Sonet can be seen almost undisguised, excluding the cover over the bonnet. Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille is prominently visible but what can be clearly seen for the first time are the front bumpers. This however seems to be a mid-spec variant and the detailing on the bumper on the top-spec trims could be a little different. This mid-spec variant however comes with a white trim garnish around the central air dam and side air dams are exactly as was seen on the concept.

We can also clearly see the projector-type headlamps for the mid-spec variants. The top-spec trim will come with rather cool LED DRLs and there will also be fog lamps within the side air dams. This being the mid-spec trim also loses out on the roof rails and dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear end of the SUV features sporty looking bumpers, LED tail lamps and a reflector band joining both the tail lamp units. Here’s a different spy shot that also gives you a look at the alloy wheel design of the Sonet.

We also have a new image partially revealing most of the interiors of the Sonet. As was expected, the Sonet borrows most of its interiors from the Seltos and that includes the steering wheel, instrument cluster cowl and the touchscreen infotainment system. The 10.25-inch touchscreen is in fact the largest in the segment. Although the Sonet does not get the 7-inch TFT LCD screen for the MID, it does get a multi-colour display with a digital reading for the speedometer. The AC vents on the Sonet however have a more premium design than in the Seltos. The rest of the control surfaces and center console will also have a different design from the Seltos.

The Kia Sonet will be offered with the same powertrain options as the Hyundai Venue. That means there will be a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine with 83bhp, a 1.0L Turbo-petrol engine with 120bhp and a detuned version of the 1.5L diesel engine that is offered in the Seltos. The diesel engine is expected to produce around 100bhp. Transmission options on the Sonet will include a 6-speed MT for petrol, a 6-speed MT for the diesel and the DCT for turbo motor. The 1.0L turbo-petrol engine will also be offered with Hyundai’s new iMT clutchless-manual gearbox that will debut on the Venue this month itself.

Kia however intends to take the game a notch higher with the Sonet. Kia will be offering a 6-speed automatic transmission with the diesel engine of the Sonet, something the Venue does not get. Prices for the diesel-AT variant of the Sonet will be quite high (as it automatic gearbox will be imported) and closer to that of the entry-level Seltos. Kia however wants to at least offer this option to its customers who are willing to shell out the extra money. We expect the Kia Sonet to be priced between Rs 7-12 lakh, ex-showroom, and after its global unveil on August 7, its India launch is expected to be sometime around September.
