Our dealership sources have hinted us that Maruti is going to price the S-Cross petrol from around Rs 9 Lakhs for the base variant.
Maruti is going to launch the BS6 compliant S-Cross Petrol this month itself. In the BS4 era, the crossover SUV came with the 1.3 Litre MJD engine that was shunted out due to the emission norms. Now, after three months, Maruti is finally going to bring in the S-Cross with a petrol engine and no diesel motor.
Our dealership sources are unsure about the dates but have suggested that the start price could be around Rs 9 Lakhs. The S-Cross diesel was priced from Rs 8.5 Lakhs going up to Rs 11.45 Lakhs, making it very practical. The petrol variants could start off at the above price going up to atleast Rs 12 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

If noted, a similar scenario happened with the Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol. Even it lost its diesel engine and is now a petrol-only SUV. The price hike was just somewhere under Rs 50,000 considering it got a BS6 compliant engine, new features and mild cosmetic upgrades. Similar upgrades will also come on the Maruti S-Cross petrol.
Powering the crossover will be a 1.5 Litre K15B four-cylinder petrol engine, that produces 104 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT, possibly a 6-speed MT elsewise. The fuel efficiency figures should be around 17 kmpl to 20 kmpl.
The mild-hybrid engine is expected to come for both manual and automatic variants. Other feature upgrades will include a slightly refreshed cabin, LED headlamps, new Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system and a new front grille. A couple of new colour options can also come as a part of the upgrade.

Maruti S-Cross will originally be a competitor to Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, but an affordable one. Of course, while you are saving money with the crossover, you will get better features and more powerful engine with the latter two. Bookings have already commenced for the S-Cross at dealerships.
