New 2020 Toyota Fortuner Makes It To India; Spied Testing For First Time

For the first time, the new 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift has been spied testing in India. It was recently unveiled in Thailand with many upgrades.

Toyota Fortuner remains one of the most outdated cars in India, with it receiving its last upgrade a couple of years back. While there’s still no bad coming from the SUV, many buyers feel that it’s time for something new. Thankfully, Toyota has recently unveiled the facelifted version of it in Thailand.

While we were expecting Toyota to bring the new Fortuner to the Indian market by 2021, here’s something unexpected! The new version has just been spied testing on the roads of Gurgaon, for the first time. The new Fortuner has been spotted completely uncamouflaged with just a tiny covering across the boot, hiding the name.

The spied test mule looks exactly like the Thai-spec version. The new Toyota Fortuner gets significant cosmetic upgrades on the outside as well as inside the cabin. You can see a new front grille with refreshed bumpers, new LED projector headlamps and a thick brushed silver skid plate. Then there’s new 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome detailing on the windows and new rear bumper as well.

The Fortuner can be seen with emissions kit indicating that the engine testing has begun already. While it will continue with the same 2.8 Litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, certain changes will make it more powerful. Instead of 177 PS and 420 Nm of torque, the facelifted Fortuner will produce 204 PS and 500 Nm of peak torque.

The gearbox options will remain the same 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter AT. Also, it will come with the same variants and FWD/4WD drivetrain configurations. The 2.7 Litre petrol engine will be carried over without any change done to its power figures. It now produces 166 PS and 245 Nm of peak torque.

Inside the cabin, we will see a refreshed dashboard theme with a new upholstery colour as well. Features onboard will include 360-degree camera, bigger touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, new digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control and more.

We expect the prices to not see a decent hike, probably of around Rs 50,000 to a Lakh. Currently, the Fortuner is priced from Rs 28.66 Lakhs up to Rs 34.43 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Now that Toyota has started testing it on the Indian roads, we can probably see the new Fortuner in the market around Festive Season (October 2020).
