Supercars in India and Their Everyday Struggles – Video

Supercars in India sometimes really have a tough time going around in the city and even when they go beyond, the always do not have the most pleasurable drives. Here’s two perfect examples about that.

We do have a lot of supercars here in India but most of these supercars are barely ever able to go out of the city limits. And that’s because of our wonderful road conditions, or the lack of it. Occasional runs in the city on Sundays and some high speed runs on the highways – that’s all most supercars get in India. Forget about racetracks as most owners never take their supercars for track days, these supercars do not even find the privilege of running on some twisty mountain roads. Supercar drivers in India thus most often stick within the city limits only.

But here we have a video where the owner of an Audi R8 takes his car out from Bangalore all the way to Coorg and it wasn’t the smoothest of drives. You must have heard that the Porsche 911 is the most usable supercar ever and that’s absolutely true. But how do you think this Audi R8 might have fared in regular driving situations where you venture out of the city limits into what is not a natural environment for a supercar like the R8.

The R8 featured here in this video is a previous-gen R8 and the video takes you through most of the road from Bangalore leading up to Coorg. You can clearly see in the video that its the monsoon season and since Coorg is a hilly region, the rains can easily deteriorate the condition of the road. There are certain patches on the road where it is complete covered in slush. Potholes and water puddles are a regular affair all along. The roads are also extremely narrow at certain places but the R8 takes it all in its stride.

The owner acknowledges that some sections were indeed challenging and he was quite skeptical if the car would do it but the R8 sailed through most of it. Also, the traction from the all-wheel drive system ensured that the car does not lose grip even in the slushy sections. This generation of the R8 has a decent ground clearance of 160mm which is why it was not much of a problem in the rough sections and also through the potholes. You just need to be slow and carefully navigate the car around the obstacles as much as possible.

Here’s another such video where a Lamborghini Huracan gets stuck over a bad patch of road somewhere in the mountain and is unable to even move after a certain point. Recovering such vehicles from such precarious situations can be quite a task so its advisable to be careful about where you are putting your supercar. Also, it’s always a good idea to scout the roads from before hand so you already know what’s in your way and if you can clear it.
