After a delay of a few months, Honda is finally ready to launch the fifth-gen City in India as the company announces the launch date of the new car. The new Honda City will be launched in India on July 15. The company had already started production of the new City last month in India and also opened bookings a couple of weeks ago. You can either book the new City online or physically visit a Honda dealership and book your car. In case you are booking the City online, booking amount has been pegged at Rs 5,000. Meanwhile, if you are booking the City at a dealerships, the booking amount stands at Rs 21,000.
Honda has already started dispatching the new City to dealerships since June 23 and deliveries for the new car will commence immediately after the launch. Honda will be selling the next-gen City along side the current version of the car and that suggest that it could have a premium pricing. In fact, that’s what Honda intended to by selling two generations of City together – have a wider audience band for the car. Top-spec variants of the new City could be priced close to Rs 15 lakh and it will be among the pricier cars in its segment.
The fifth-gen Honda City is a evolution of the current-gen car in terms of design. The new sedan retains its overall profile to the outgoing model but is significantly more sophisticated and premium in terms of design. The face is dominated by a thick chrome grille and there new sharper LED headlamps as well. The bumper is much more contoured and the face has a nice layered effect. In profile, there’s a strong shoulder line running from the headlamps to the tail lamps and the dual-tone alloy wheels look great too. The rear end gets sleeker tail lamps and sporty looking bumper. The car looks much more sleeker than before.

Under the hood, the new Honda City will be powered by 1.5L petrol and diesel engines. Although the 1.5L diesel engine is being carried over from the current-gen car, the 1.5L petrol engine is a completely new unit and comes with new twin-cam setup. The petrol engine has been tuned to produce 119hp and 145Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional CVT automatic gearbox. The diesel engine will be updated to the BS6 norms and we expect it to continue producing 100bhp, just like the BS4-spec City. This engine too will come mated to the manual and CVT gearbox options.

On the inside however, the dashboard design is complete new with a more simplistic and minimalist design approach. It is also much better feature equipped than the current-gen car. Some of the standout features on the car includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Weblink compatibility, a 7.0-inch MID in the instrument cluster, Honda Connect telematics system with 32 connected car features, electric sunroof, an auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, paddleshifters (CVT only), keyless entry and go, remote engine start and a hands-free boot release.
