This Ford Freestyle Gets Submerged In Water; Owner Gets A 6.5 Lakh Bill!

Due to the monsoon, this Ford Freestyle was submerged in water for nearly 15 minutes. That was enough to damage the car completely.

Minor damages to a car are unavoidable in India, but what happens when your car is completely damaged beyond repair? Here’s a Ford Freestyle which was doing all good before the monsoon played its role. The incident happened in West Bengal as the car was submerged halfway in water for nearly 15 minutes.

The rain water had collected inside a underpass and the car was travelling through that part. We are not sure why did the driver decide to go there or was he standing from earlier. The water started accumulating soon and before the owner could realize, it was way up to half of the car. The engine and some other components were already submerged.

The owner said that immediately, the car stopped working and after 15 minutes, the water went away. However, the car would not start and not even give the ignition sound. He had to call in the Ford assistance who sent a truck to get it towed away. After some days, he got a call from the dealership which was something unpleasant.

The Ford dealership called and said that it will cost nearly Rs 6.5 Lakhs to get the car fixed. They said that the engine has been damaged completely along with the battery. While we knew this would be costly but not around 90% of the total cost of the car. Imagine a Rs 6.5 Lakh repairing bill for this 2-year old Rs 7.5 Lakhs Ford Freestyle.

The insurance company is now suggesting that the engine damage is not covered in insurance. The owner had bumper to bumper insurance but was never told about this. Finally, he has been asked to cough up Rs 3 Lakhs from his own pocket whereas the rest will be managed by insurance money.

This issue seems to come from the Ford dealership and the owner feels that they are overcharging for the repairing costs. We expect the actual charges to just be around a Lakh or two, but we will soon hear an update from the owner regarding it. While many other people are suggesting the owner to get it repaired from a local dealership, we will not advise that.
