Toyota Hikes Price of Camry Hybrid and Vellfire by Quite Some Amount!

Toyota has hiked the price of the Camry Hybrid by Rs 1.4 lakh while the price of the Vellfire has gone up by Rs 4 lakh. This hike comes as follow up of the price hikes introduced last month for the rest of the models because of Covid-19.

Toyota hiked the prices of almost its entire lineup last month except for the Camry hybrid sedan and the Vellfire luxury MPV. While the entire lineup had already received a significant price hike which includes the Glanza, Yaris, Innova Crysta and the Fortuner, Toyota had said at that time that they will hike the prices of the Camry and Vellfire in July. It was also said that the hike in price would be by up to 4-5%.

Now, Toyota has officially hiked the prices of the Camry hybrid sedan and the Vellfire MPV by Rs 1.14 lakh and Rs 4 lakh, respectively. The BS6 version of the Camry hybrid was previously priced at Rs 37.88 lakh. After the price hike, the Camry now costs Rs 39.02 lakh. Meanwhile, the Vellfire which was launched in February for a price of Rs 79.50 lakh, is now priced at Rs 83.50 lakh. All prices, ex-showroom, Delhi.

When Toyota hiked the prices of the rest of the models last month itself, the manufacturer had said the price hikes are driven by a sharp rise in the exchange rate in the last few months since pre-COVID-19 situation. Interestingly, the Camry and the Vellfire, the last to receive the round of price hikes, are both hybrid cars in Toyota’s lineup in India. While the Camry comes as semi-knocked down (SKD) unit and is assembled locally assembled here in India, the Vellfire comes as a full import to India.

The Toyota Camry hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine that produces 176 bhp at 5,700 rpm and a peak torque of 221 Nm at 3,600-5,200 rpm. The electric motor additionally produces 118 bhp and 202 Nm of peak torque. With the combined outputs of both the systems, the Camry hybrid has a total power output figure of 208bhp. That’s not only the best output in the segment but its also ahead of the entry-level German sedans. The engine is mated with a 6-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The Vellfire on the other hand is also powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine that produces 115 bhp at 4700 rpm and 198 Nm of peak torque between 2800 – 4000 rpm. The Vellfire however gets two electric motors, one on each axle, which further produces 105 kW and 50 kW respectively. The total power output for the Vellfire thus stands at 196bhp. The powertrain comes mated to a an e-CVT that sends power to the front wheels and it also gets an electronic 4WD system.
