Toyota Innova Petrol CNG Spied Testing Again; Launch Expected Soon

To make the Innova more affordable and practical, Toyota is going to launch its CNG version soon. It has been spied testing again near the home plant in Bidadi.

Toyota Innova Crysta is one of the best selling cars from the manufacturer, raking high numbers every month. Over the decade, it has maintained a strong demand in the Indian market. With the launch of Crysta, it got a lot more expensive but also gave tons of space along with a more premium cabin.

Last year, Toyota Officials, in an interview revealed that they are working with MSIL to developed CNG kits. CNG might have its disadvantages but is very easy on the pocket. It is preferred by many buyers who use their cars mainly for city travelling or for commercial purposes.

Now, again, Toyota Innova Crysta CNG has been spotted testing on the roads of Bidadi, near Bangalore. On the rear windscreen, you can see the CNG sticker. The spied test mule is completely undisguised but carrying a Red temporary number plate. The testing indicates that Toyota is actually planning to launch it in the market.

The CNG kit will be paired with Innova’s 2.7 Litre petrol engine. The engine produces 166 BHP and 245 Nm of peak torque but will produce lower figures for the CNG variants. Gearbox option will include a 6-speed manual as standard fitment. On the other hand, you will get the option of a 2.4 Litre diesel engine as well.

Seeing the size of Innova, Toyota is expected to put the kit with capacity of atleast 12-13 kilograms. If it manages to give a fuel efficiency of 20 km/kg, the total range could easily go up to 250 kilometres. For smaller cars like WagonR and Celerio, the capacity and range both are considerably lower.

Currently, the prices of Toyota Innova Crysta commence at Rs 15.66 Lakhs up to Rs 22.46 Lakhs for the petrol variants. The CNG kit will mostly be offered on the base and mid-spec variant only. However, that also remains an uncertainty if the cheaper alternative will be introduced for private buyers or just for commercial purposes.
