Toyota has revealed a facelift for the Yaris (Vios as its known globally) in Philippines and it comes with a heavily restyled front end and a updated infotainment system as well.

Toyota has revealed a facelift for the Yaris or Vios as its known internationally in Philippines today. This is actually the second major facelift that the current-gen mid-size sedan has received. The current-gen Toyota Vios (Yaris) has been on the market since 2013 and when Toyota introduced this model in India in 2018 as the Yaris, it was actually the  facelifted version. Anyhow, the Yaris has again been updated and this ageing sedan has again received a fresh doze of modernity.

The most notable change on the Yaris facelift has been on the face of the car, and if you know your cars properly, you’d know that the new face has been inspired by Lexus cars. The front bumper is all new and features a trapezoidal central air dam, which is exactly the shape of the grille you find on Lexus cars. The new C-shaped fog lamp housing have also been inspired by Lexus and features projector-type lamps.

The upper portion of the grille has also been restyled and features chrome inserts now. In fact, with this facelift, the Yaris now has a single piece grille as opposed to the split grille setup seen on the pre-facelift car. Most of the changes are only concentrated towards the face of the car and the side and rear profile remain relatively unchanged. The car however gets some newly designed alloy wheels but we would have certainly liked some revisions to the tail lamps and rear bumper as well.

The interiors of the Yaris however do not see any significant upgrade over the pre-facelift car. The only update on the interior is a new infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support but other equipments and layout remain absolutely unchanged. Top-spec variants of the Yaris come with features such as  7 airbags, keyless entry and go, cruise control, automatic climate control, drive modes, paddle-shifters on the automatic versions, among other features.

Under the hood as well, the Yaris facelift continues with the same set of engines as the outgoing car. Internationally, the Yaris gets two engine options – a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 98hp and 123Nm and a  1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 106hp and 140Nm. Toyota offers the latter 1.5L petrol engine in India with the option of both manual and CVT automatic gearboxes.

Although Toyota has not officially spoken about bringing the Yaris facelift to India, it could certainly help its case here as the Yaris has never really fared well in terms of sales numbers. The sedan segment is on a bit of resurgence currently in India with the coming of the new Honda City, the updated Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento. The Yaris could certainly do with an update to take on the competition with a fresh vigor.
