2021 New Generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio Spied Testing In India

Here’s the first spy shot of the new generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio which is scheduled to be launched sometime next year.

As reported earlier, Maruti Suzuki was planning to launch two new generation models which will either be an upgrade or a replacement to the Alto 800 and Celerio. Now, first spy shots of the new generation Celerio have come up on the internet. As per earlier reports, the new model will be launched in India in 2021.

If noticed Maruti Celerio has been the same from the last 6 years, without any major upgrade. It was launched in India as an upgrade to WagonR, a better looking and more feature equipped hatchback. Over the years, it did not get any major upgrades and that led to its sales falling down gradually.

As we can see here, the new generation Celerio will adapt a SUV-ish design. It will get a proper design upgrade which will make it a completely new hatchback. Moreover, the boot here bears a slight resemblance to Baleno, probably because of the hunchback. Then there’s new alloys and a refreshed lamps.

It will be based on the new HEARTECT platform that comes on most of the Maruti cars now. In terms of positioning, we are expecting Celerio to come out as a bigger version of S-Presso. A hatch-SUV crossover with slightly bigger dimensions. Currently, the manufacturer offers 7 hatchbacks right from the budget of Rs 3 Lakhs to Rs 9 Lakhs.

The current Celerio gets a 1.0 Litre three-cylinder engine that produces 69 PS and 91 Nm of peak torque. The same engine will be carried over along with the 1.2 Litre four-cylinder unit as well. WagonR, with its new generation, got the more powerful engine and so will the new generation Celerio.

In terms of pricing, the new Celerio will appeal to buyers who want something as spacious as a WagonR but something better looking. Expect the prices to be under 7 Lakhs for the top-end variant. With this and the new generation of Alto also coming in, Maruti is trying to maintain its presence in the hatchback segment.
