BS6 Honda CB Hornet is Almost Here With a Bigger Engine!

Honda has dropped a teaser of the upcoming BS6 CB Hornet 200R which is going to be launched on August 27 and the Hornet now gets a bigger engine, new hardware, and revised looks as well.

Honda has dropped a new teaser, hinting the arrival of a new motorcycle. We believe this is going to be the replacement of the CB Hornet 160R. We had already reported to you that the Honda CB Hornet 160R was likely to receive an upgrade with a bigger displacement engine and this seems to be it. Although the Japanese manufacturer has updated its entire portfolio to meet the BS6 norms, the very popular CB Hornet had been missing from the lineup. So here’s what you could expect from the upcoming BS6 Honda CB Hornet 200R.

The teaser shows us a glimpse of the engine and we can tell that its an air-cooled, fuel-injected unit. This engine could be derived from the CBF190R that Honda sells internationally. The 184cc single-cylinder engine is expected to produce power and torque figures comparable to the  TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. While, the older CB Hornet 160R produced,15.09PS and 14.5Nm, this engine is likely to produce around 20PS of power and 16Nm of torque. It is expected to come mated to a 6-speed transmission.

We can also see from the teaser that the motorcycle gets gold finished inverted front forks. This will then be the first time Honda will be offering inverted forks on a made-in-India motorcycle. The motorcycle seems to be underpinned by the same diamond type frame as the CB Hornet 160R and it gets a monoshock at the rear. The motorcycle also uses petal discs for optimal braking performance as it offers more surface area than conventional discs. Just like the Hornet 160R, we also expect the motorcycle to be wearing meaty 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres.

The styling seems to be an evolution of the design of the CB Hornet 160R. The tank extensions are beefier and gold-finished inverted forks give the motorcycle a muscular design. What’s also new are the full-LED headlamps and that really changes the look at the face. The motorcycle gets a wide single-piece handlebar and the key slot has been positioned on the tank instead of on the handlebar clamp as on the 160cc Hornet. The CB Hornet 200R also uses an all-digital instrument cluster with all the run of the mill info. The ergonomics are expected to be upright with a slight hint of sportiness.

Honda will launch the new CB Hornet 200R on August 27. Honda already has the BS6 X-Blade in the 160cc space and it is priced at 1.07 lakh. The Hornet was always meant to be positioned above the X-Blade and it thus makes sense to take the CB Hornet to the 200cc segment where something like the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is priced at Rs 1.27 lakh. We expect the Honda CB Hornet 200R to be priced somewhat around Rs 1.40 lakh.
