The BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross actually overlaps the segment of mid-size SUVs and compact SUVs in terms of price and here we have made compared the price of the S-Cross with all its rivals for you.
Earlier this week, Maruti Suzuki launched the BS6 S-Cross petrol in India for a starting price of Rs 8.39 lakh, going all the way up to Rs 12.39 lakh. In terms of prices, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross actually overlaps the price of smaller sub-compact SUVs, like those of the Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon. However, being 4.3 meters in length, it does not actually belong to that segment but instead belongs to the mid-size SUV, again with which, its prices are quite comparable. Here we have compared the price of BS6 S-Cross Petrol with both the segments to give you a clearer idea.

First, we have compared the price of the S-Cross with the mid-size SUV segment, and for comparison sake, we have only taken its petrol counterparts in this segment. We have also not included the MG Hector and the Tata Harrier for they are much bigger SUVs and the Harrier only comes with a diesel engine. The S-Cross is actually the smallest of the lot and does not even qualify as a proper SUV and in spite of that, its not the out right cheapest model. That credit goes to the Renault Duster, a much bigger and a proper SUV.
The BS6 S-Cross Petrol however has the lowest starting price in the segment at Rs 8.39 lakh for the petrol-MT variant with the top-spec variant being priced at Rs 11.15 lakh. However, the S-Cross is quite a dated car now and instead of buying a top-spec variant of the S-Cross, you will do your money better justice by buying a mid-spec variant of the Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta or even the Kia Seltos which are much more contemporary cars. They also come much better equipped than the S-Cross. Or you can even get a top-spec Renault Duster and save yourself some cash there.
However, when talking about the petrol-AT variants of the S-Cross, it is actually the cheapest in the segment and by quite a margin. The top-spec petrol AT variant of the S-Cross tops out at Rs 12.39 lakh while other cars in the segment only start at about Rs 13-14 lakh. So if you really want an petrol-automatic variant from this segment, the S-Cross actually makes for a good buy.

Here again, we have only taken the petrol variants of all the sub-compact SUVs and the prices here are actually more comparable in spite of the S-Cross not even belonging to this segment. Which is why it is also a fair bit more expensive than all other cars in this segment. The starting price of the petrol-MT variant of the S-Cross is the most expensive of the lot while the Mahindra XUV300 is the priciest of all of them in its top-spec trim. The petrol-AT variants of the S-Cross are also more expensive than its counterparts, but not by a huge margin.

The point of comparing the S-Cross with these sub-compact SUVs is that they offer much more value-for-money in spite of being smaller and cheaper. If space isn’t the outright concern for you – the Mahindra XUV300 and Ford Ecosport wouldn’t leave you wanting more – then all the other sub-compact SUVs are more contemporary, much more feature equipped and are much more ‘SUV’ as well. The S-Cross is moreover towards the end of lifetime and it might be replaced by an whole new model in 2-3 years time. It thus makes more sense to look else where, if you are not hugely bent upon the S-Cross anyway.
