Here we have listed the 0-100 kph time of the Kia Sonet for each of the different powertrain options its available with. What is not a surprise is that the 1.0L turbo-petrol variant with the 7-speed DCT gearbox is the fastest of the lot.
The Kia Sonet has been one of the most exciting new arrivals in the Indian car market. Although its identical to the Hyundai Venue under the skin, it has really wowed us with its handsome looks and feature-packed interiors. The Kia Sonet even goes a step higher than the Hyundai Venue in offering an torque converter automatic gearbox with the diesel variant, something the Venue does not get. Well, a couple of days ago we revealed to you the fuel efficiency figures of each of the variants and now, we have the 0-100 kph time of each variant of the Kia Sonet.
1.2-litre Petrol | 1.0-litre Turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre Diesel Manual | 1.5-litre Diesel Automatic
Power | 83hp | 120hp | 100hp | 115hp |
Torque | 115Nm | 172Nm | 240Nm | 250Nm |
Transmission Options | 5-speed manual | 6-speed iMT / 7-speed DCT | 6-speed MT | 6-speed AT |
But first, let’s have a quick recap at all the powertrain options on offer with the Kia Sonet. First, there’s the familiar 1.2L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Then there’s the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque and this comes mated to either the 6-speed iMT gearbox or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5L diesel engine comes in two specs of tune – 115hp/250Nm mated to a 6-speed AT or 100hp/240Nm mated to a 6-speed MT.
1.2-litre Petrol | 1.0-litre Turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre Diesel Manual | 1.5-litre Diesel Automatic
0-100kmph | 13.3 seconds | 11.3 seconds (DCT) / 12.3 seconds (iMT) | 12.3 seconds | 11.8 seconds |
The table above shows you the exact 0-100 kph time for each of the variants of the Kia Sonet. The 1.0L turbo-petrol variant with the 7-speed DCT gearbox is the fastest of the lot with a time of 11.3 seconds and that’s a pretty respectable time indeed. Meanwhile, the 1.2L petrol engine with the 5-speed manual gearbox is the slowest of the lot with a 0-100 kph time of 13.3 seconds. That honestly was not a surprise as it is the least in terms of power and torque output among all these three engines.

Interestingly, the 1.0L Turbo-petrol engine with the iMT gearbox and the 1.5L diesel engine with the 6-speed manual gearbox have an identical 0-100 kph time of 12.3 seconds. Also, although the 1.5L diesel engine with the automatic gearbox is the most torque-ey of the lot and only marginally less powerful than the 1.0L turbo-petrol, its still not the faster than the turbo-petrol variant. And that’s exactly where the quick shifting DCT gearbox comes into play to give the Sonet turbo-petrol that half-a-second of advantage.

Comparing the power and torque figures of the Sonet with its rivals – Ford Ecopsort, Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300 – the Sonet actually stands quite well. It’s only marginally less powerful than the Ford Ecosport (122hp/149Nm) and second only to the Mahindra XUV300 (110hp/200Nm) in terms of torque output for the petrol engines. As for the diesel engine with the 6-speed automatic gearbox, it is again only marginally less powerful than the Mahindra XUV300 (117hp/300Nm) but it is behind in torque output than the Tata Nexon (110hp/260Nm) as well.
