A lot of may not be knowing but India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world. It is an ever growing market and one that is attracting new and more global players to enter our market and even make locally produced cars. In fact, India has become such an important car market, that home-grown manufacturers as well as foreign brands are developing products specifically for the Indian consumers. As it turns out, the automotive industry have taken the ‘Made in India’ tagline too seriously and here, we have thus compiled a list of cars here that developed specifically for India, and its people.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Maruti Suzuki was quick to identify India’s growing trend for SUVs and they wanted that appeal for their entry-level cars as well.

What better to start this list than with a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso? The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso was based on the Future-S Concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. It was meant to rival the Renault Kwid right from the onset. Maruti Suzuki was quick to identify India’s growing trend for SUVs and they wanted that appeal for their entry-level cars as well. The Renault Kwid had already been capitalizing on that trend and the recent sales numbers will tell that the S-Presso has achieved what it intended to – to take away a share of the pie from the Kwid. Maruti Suzuki even exports the Made in India S-Presso to other developing nations like Brazil and South Africa.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

The Grand i10 was such a popular model here in India that Hyundai went on to develop the third-generation of the car and add a ‘Nios’ suffix to the name.

The Tata Altroz comes across as one of the most well rounded packages in the premium hatchback segment. It comes with smart features such as 90-degree opening doors Tata’s Voice BoT, which is a personalised, interactive voice experience for the Tata Altroz, using the Google Assistant. 

Renault Triber

Specifically built to cater to Indian customers with large families and limited budget, the Triber is only sub-4m vehicle in India with seven seats.

Mahindra XUV300

The XUV300 is again from a home-grown manufacturer and thus obviously made in India, made for India.

Packed with powerful petrol and diesel engines, the XUV300 is one of the most well rounded packages in the segment.

MG Hector Plus

While the Hector SUV is on sale in several other international markets, the Hector Plus was conceived specifically for India.

Riding high on the success of the Hector SUV, MG launched the Hector Plus in India this year. While the Hector SUV is on sale in several other international markets, the Hector Plus was conceived specifically for India. It was deemed to be a much cheaper alternative to the famed Toyota Innova Crysta. The Hector Plus is a six-seater version of the Hector with an added third row of seats and captain chairs for the middle row. With added practicality, the Hector Plus was meant to lure away some buyers from the Innova Crysta. Its only been a few months since the Hector Plus has been on sale and only time will tell if MG Motors have been successful with their endeavor.
