Honda Jazz Loses Out On Diesel Engine; To Be A BS6 Petrol Only Hatch

Honda has revealed the BS6 compliant Jazz and its bookings have also commenced. However, it comes with one huge disappointment.

Honda has finally unveiled the BS6 compliant Jazz, which comes out after two months of its discontinuation in India. The bookings are now open at dealerships for a token of Rs 21,000 as well as online for an amount of Rs 5,000. The manufacturer has confirmed that the hatchback will be launched towards the end of this month.

One of the biggest changes on the Jazz will include a reduction. The reliable 1.5 Litre i-DTEC diesel engine of the Jazz will no longer be available in the BS6 era. Now, it will be a petrol-only hatchback, continuing with its same 1.2 Litre i-VTEC. The diesel unit of Jazz was not a charmer but highly reliable and gave high mileage figures. It produced 100 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque.

Honda-Jazz-Facelift

The cost of upgrading a diesel engine to become BS6 compliant is very high. If and if they upgrade it, the manufacturers will have to sell them at a considerable price hike in order to negate the excess cost. This is the sole reason why many manufacturers have discontinued producing diesel engines.

Jazz, in its BS6 era, will continue to produce 90 PS and 110 Nm of peak torque from its petrol engine. It will come mated to a 5-speed MT and a CVT gearbox with paddle shifters. Once we get to drive the car we will see if there’s any major improvement in the driving nature. Alongside, expect the fuel efficiency to decrease by a small number.

Further, it will come with features such as 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electric sunroof, cruise control, paddle shifters, steering mounted audio controls, automatic AC, electric ORVMs and more. Safety bits will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera.
