Mahindra Marazzo To Be Back in BS6 Guise Later This Month!

After being discontinued earlier this year, Mahindra will re-launch the Marazzo with a BS6-complaint engine with a revamped variants and features list. Automatic and petrol variants of the Marazzo will also be launched later this year.

Mahindra discontinued the Marazzo in India earlier this year as we stepped into the BS6 era, but now, the BS6 iteration of the MPV is set to make a comeback soon. The BS6 Mahindra Marazzo would have been launched sooner but was inevitably delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With the BS6 update, Mahindra has also revamped the variant lineup of the Marazzo with a shuffling of few features here and there and will now be offered in three trims – M2, M4+ and M6+.

So what’s under the hood now?

Mahindra will be relaunching the Marazzo with its familiar 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 123hp and 300Nm of peak torque. This engine has obviously been made BS6 compliant now with the use of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system and a rear-mounted urea tank to help reduce NOx emissions. Like before, this engine will continue to come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission but Mahindra is also working on a new AMT gearbox option for the Marazzo, which is expected to launch later this year.

Apart from the tried and tested diesel engine, Mahindra will also be launching a new petrol-powered Marazzo later this year. This petrol engine belongs to Mahindra’s mStallion engine family and its a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 163hp and 280Nm of torque. This engine is expected to come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with the option of a Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic as well.

How have the variants and features been revised?

As mentioned before, the BS6 Mahindra Marazzo will be available in three trims – M2, M4+ and M6+ – and the features on each trim have also been revised. Here’s a quick look at what features you can expect to find in each trim.

With the BS6 update, Mahindra has also re-jigged the variants and features on offer with the Marazzo.

Marazzo M2

This is the only variant where the features list more or less remains unchanged. To point out a few of them, they would be – dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, fabric seat upholstery, roof-mounted rear AC vents, power windows, central locking, a USB charging point for rear passenger, outside mirrors with integrated turn indicators and more.

Marazzo M4+

This trim was previously known as the M4 trim and some features which have been carried forward are the height adjustable driver’s seat, a rear wiper and washer, a voice messaging system, a front USB socket, USB and AUX input for rear passengers, and electrically adjustable outside mirrors. Additionally, the mid-spec M4+ variant has now benefited from few new features which include 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, a 4.2-inch infotainment screen with USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity, a rear defogger, and steering-mounted controls.

Marazzo M6+

This is now the new top-spec variant of the Marazzo and it gets everything that the previous M6 variant got. That includes projector headlamps, front and rear fog lamps, cornering lamps, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, premium fabric upholstery, adjustable lumbar support for the front seats, and even a conversation mirror. Additionally, the M6+ variant also gets some features which were offered on the now-discontinued M8 trim and these include 17-inch alloy wheels, auto climate control, rear parking camera with guideline and one-touch operation for the driver’s side window.

That said, the new BS6 Marazzo wouldn’t be quite as feature rich as the outgoing model. The top-spec Marazzo M6+ variant is expected to cost Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and that’s about Rs 50,000 less than the BS4-spec M8 variant of the Marazzo. For that amount of money, you lose a few fancy features on the MPV that includes leatherette upholstery, cooled glovebox with illumination, cruise control and power folding mirrors. The BS6 Marazzo is expected to launch in the market later this month.
