Here is a quick drag race video where the Baleno is put against the mighty Scorpio, known for its brute looks and a powerful diesel engine.
While these races happen on the highways without any supervision, we strongly advise people not to do such things. The winner of the first attempt is obviously, Mahindra Scorpio. However, in the second attempt, we can see the Maruti Baleno gaining an early start and very swiftly, it outruns the Scorpio by a huge distance. The winner of the second attempt is Maruti Baleno. First of all, Baleno gets a small 1.2 Litre petrol engine that’s good for 83 PS and 113 Nm. Its power to weight ratio is 107 PS per tonne. On the other hand, Scorpio gets a 2.2 Litre diesel engine that produces 120 BHP and 280 Nm of peak torque. Here, the power to weight ratio is just 48 BHP per tonne. That’s a huge difference.
Moreover, the acceleration of Baleno will be better because its nearly 3 times lighter. However, in the top speed run or even while you are in the second gear, Scorpio will easily be a winner. Many of you thought that Scorpio will come as a clear winner, but that was proved wrong here.
