Renault has launched the Duster Turbo petrol in India for a starting price of Rs 10.59 lakh. It is now the most affordable turbo-petrol mid-size SUV in India and also the most powerful of the lot too.

First showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, Renault has finally launched the Duster Turbo petrol in India. The Renault Duster Turbo petrol has been launched for a starting price of Rs 10.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.59 lakh, all prices ex-showroom. This new Duster Turbo petrol replaces the older diesel engine on the Duster that was sold in the BS4 era and now its offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. Along with the new turbo-petrol variants, Renault has also hiked the prices of the RXE and RXS variants of the standard Duster. Here’s the refreshed price list of the Renault Duster for both its turbo-petrol and naturally aspirated engines.

This new 1.3L turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine produces 153 bhp and develops 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard but there’s also an option for a 7-step CVT automatic transmission. Incidentally, the same engine is also offered on the BS6 Nissan Kicks in the same spec of tune. The Duster Turbo-petrol is not the most affordable turbo-petrol SUV in its class. It is not only much cheaper than the turbo-petrol variants of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, but it also undercuts the price of the Nissan Kicks Turbo by a fair margin.

It also worth pointing out that the 1.3L turbo-petrol engine is also the most powerful of the lot. The 1.4L turbo-petrol engines in the Creta and Seltos produce 140 bhp while the 1.5L turbo-petrol engine in the Hector produces 143 bhp. The Duster will be more powerful and torque-ey than all of them which should really spice things up for Renault. The Duster has always been a very popular SUV and such class leading numbers should further help its case. As another matter of difference with other turbo-petrol SUVs in this segment which come with DCT automatic gearboxes, the Duster stands out with the CVT gearbox just as its sibling, the Nissan Kicks.

But are there any visual differences that set the Duster Turbo apart from the standard variant? Well, there are some bright red accents on the grille, the roof rails and the lug nuts and there’s also a ‘Turbo’ badging on the tail gate. The Duster Turbo also rides on larger 17-inch alloy wheels, which are a size up over the 1.5-litre variants. There aren’t however any changes on the inside in terms of styling or equipment. However, you can now start the engine and pre-cool the cabin via a new button on the key fob.

The Duster continues with other equipment it got before. That includes a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with push button start, electronic stability program, hill start assist, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. The Duster Turbo sits in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Yes, it might not be as feature loaded or as contemporary as some of its rivals, but its way more affordable, is more powerful and is also a little more rugged and better over the rough stuff than its competitors.
