The limited-edition Toyota Fortuner TRD will be here only for three months and brings with it subtle cosmetic changes on the outside but the Technology package inside brings a lot of high-end features to the table including a dashcam and a heads-up display.
Toyota has launched the limited edition Fortuner TRD in India for a starting price of Rs 34.98 lakh for the 4×2 diesel-automatic version, and goes up to Rs 36.88 lakh for the 4×4 diesel-automatic variant (all prices, ex-showroom). The Toyota Fortuner TRD edition is only available with the diesel-automatic variants and it brings a lot more equipment and cosmetic changes to the table. It commands a premium of Rs 2.45 lakh over the standard Fortuner.
Yes, Toyota had launched a TRD Celebratory Edition of the Fortuner in 2019, but this new SUV is BS6 complaint and also packs in much more features than the TRD edition of 2019. From the outside, the 2020 Toyota Fortuner TRD looks largely similar to the Fortuner TRD Celebratory Edition that was launched last year. The Fortuner TRD exclusively gets a ‘Pearl White’ paint job with a contrasting black roof and there’s a black band under the grille with the TRD logo on it.
The front bumper has also been restyled with the chrome elements around the fog lamps now getting black surrounds and there’s a faux silver skid plate at the bottom. There’s a new design for the blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels and while Toyota hasn’t shared any image of the rear of the SUV, we expect some blacked-out elements on the rear bumpers as well. It is however on the inside that Toyota has thrown in everything.
The interiors of the Toyota TRD come in a black-and-maroon color scheme but it is the ‘Special Technology Package’ which is really outstanding. The Technology package brings with it a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, a dash cam, auto-folding ORVMs, puddle lamps, a tyre pressure monitor, an air purifier, and a door-mounted wireless smartphone charger for rear seat passengers. This package is only exclusive to the Fortuner TRD and brings with it some really high-end features.

There are also several TRD logos, both on the outside and inside, to announce this is not any regular Fortuner. Under the hood however, they are no changes and it gets a sole powertrain options – the BS6 2.8-litre, 177hp diesel engine paired with the six-speed automatic gearbox. You however get the option to choose either between two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive with the TRD variant.

Both the 4×2 diesel-automatic and the 4×4 diesel-automatic TRD variants of the Fortuner are Rs 2.45 lakh more expensive than the standard Fortuner variants it’s based on. This is a limited edition variant and will only be around for three months. Toyota is also working on the facelift for the Fortuner in India and you can expect it to arrive in the market sometime next year.
