The biggest change on the upcoming 2021 Ducati Monster 821 is the use of a new aluminium spar frame instead of the trademark trellis frame. The motorcycle also looks a lot more contemporary than before and will have newer features as well.
Did you know the Ducati Monster name goes way back to 1993? In fact, Ducati laid the foundation for the street naked segment with the original Monster so many years ago. The motorcycle has been evolving ever since and has been a backbone for the brand ever since. For 2021, there’s a brand new Monster coming up and this time, Ducati has decided to shake things up a little bit. The new 2021 Ducati Monster 821 has already been spotted testing a couple of months ago, and while that gave us a brief idea of what to expect, there was little that could be deciphered from those images.
Now, there are some new design sketches of the upcoming Ducati Monster 821 and they reveal a lot more than previous spy shots. There are new mechanical components, design tweaks and of course, a lot more features as well. Starting with the design, the 2021 Ducati Monster 821 looks a lot sharper and angular than before. Its still identifiable as a Monster but its looks a lot more contemporary. The Headlamps are still round but LEDs this time and the fuel tank has also been redesigned to keep it looking fresh. The rear subframe and the tail section have also been reworked to flow with the overall design.
The biggest and most important change on the new Monster 821 is the use of a new aluminium spar frame instead of the trademark trellis frame. This however doesn’t come as much of a surprise as the Panigale V4 and the new Streetfighter were already using aluminium spar frames instead of trellis units. The engine is used as a stressed member here and that ultimately helps to shave off some weight from the motorcycle. The new swingarm also seems slimmer than the age-old chunky design of its predecessor, again helping shed some more weight.

The previously spotted test mule was running on newly designed alloy wheels and these design sketches also point in the same direction. The previously spied test mule also seemed to be running stubby end cans for the exhausts which looked a bit unfinished. These design sketches now give us a better look at the exhaust end cans. The exhaust pipes have now been rerouted from under the engine instead of having them run from the sides. This perhaps could help with better heat management.

As for its performance, the new-gen Monster 821 will most likely continue to be powered by the Euro 5/BS6-compliant 821cc liquid-cooled L-Twin engine. The previous-gen Monster 821 produced 109PS of power and 86Nm of peak torque. The previous-gen motorcycle also had a different set of electronics (riding modes, power modes) and Ducati Safety Pack (ABS from Bosch and Ducati Traction Control). The motorcycle is expected to features an IMU-based traction control and cornering ABS. Ducati is likely to take the wraps off the new Monster 821 at the Ducati World Premiere 2020 followed by an India launch in 2021. It will surely be more expensive than the model it replaces and it will take on the likes of the Triumph Street Triple R, KTM 790 Duke, BMW F 900 R and the Kawasaki Z900.
