Is This The Facelifted India-Bound Audi Q2 Launching This Month?

Audi has given the India-bound Q2 a makeover with slight design tweaks along with new features and a cleaner engine but it remains to be seen if this updated SUV is the one that’s launched in India later this month.

After a streak of high profile launches, Audi is finally bringing a more affordable product to India this month and that’s the Q2 SUV. The Audi Q2 will be the new entry point into the brand in India as it will sit even below the Q3. The German car maker has now given the Q2 a slight makeover just before its debut in India and we hope this facelifted version is indeed the car that is brought to our shores. The makeover brings slight tweaks to the design, cleaner engine options and driver assistance features to the table. Let’s take a closer look at it.

The updated Q2 looks quite familiar in first glance as the basic silhouette remains relatively unchanged. However, the changes are in the details and if you look closely, you’ll notice the revised slatted grille, finished in black. Audi has even thrown in Matrix LED headlamps on the Q2 this time around and the funky DRLs give it a characteristic look. The bumpers also sport much more aggressive air dams and there are new alloy wheels on the sides as well. The rear end redesigned tail lamps with dynamic turn signals and a new bumper.

The changes on the outside were still identifiable but its even more subtle on the inside. The only perceivable change on the inside includes the redesigned gear lever and AC vents. The rest of the dashboard design is otherwise identical to the pre-facelift Q2. Thankfully, the infotainment system is controlled via a swivel wheel on the center console and Audi hasn’t put their dual-infotainment screen layout here in the Q2. The 2020 Audi Q2 is now available in five exterior color options – Apple Green, Manhattan Grey, Navarra Blue, Arrow Grey, and Turbo Blue.

The launch is slated towards the end of this month. However, it remains to be seen if we are getting this updated SUV or the pre-facelift model.

On the features front, the Q2 gets Audi’s MMI infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, and connected car technology. It also gets Audi’s virtual cockpit system. What is new with this update is the new set of driver assistance system which brings in features like lane departure warning, park assist and Audi’s pre-sense safety system.

Under the hood, the Euro-spec Audi Q2 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 150hp and 250Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and it even features cylinder deactivation technology for better fuel-efficiency. The India-spec Audi Q2 could however be powered by a larger 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 190hp and could come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. When launched, the Q2 will have no direct rivals in India as it will sit below the Mercedes Benz GLA and the BMW X1. The launch is slated towards the end of this month. However, it remains to be seen if we are getting this updated SUV or the pre-facelift model.
