Right now in the budget of 10-20 Lakhs, three SUVs are the most popular and hot selling. That includes Kia Seltos, new Hyundai Creta and MG Hector. Interestingly, all of them produce the same power and torque figures through their turbo petrol engines. So, here is a drag race between Kia Seltos Turbo and MG Hector to check out which one is the clear winner.
As you can see, both produce the same power figures but Kia Seltos is considerably lighter. So, that’s a clear indication of who will win. Both are DCT variants, so there’s another thing similar. From the start itself, you can see the Seltos pacing swiftly but the MG Hector taking its own time. We have driven both the cars and we personally say that the gearbox of Seltos is slicker and quicker on the toes.

Definitely, Kia Seltos comes as a clear winner over the MG hector in this drag race. However, the time difference between both of them is more than a second. Hector gets a slightly more powerful 1.5 Litre turbo petrol engine that produces 143 BHP and 250 Nm of peak torque. Seltos gets a 1.4 Litre turbo petrol motor that produces 143 BHP and 242 Nm of peak torque. Both come with a 7-speed DCT.
While Seltos still has the driving quotient or the enthusiast, Hector is rather a calm beast. When it will be a challenge of top speed, definitely Hector will be the winner by a very small difference. Seltos weighs around 1300 kilograms whereas the Hector is about 1700 kilograms. Probably, if both of their manual variants where set up in a drag race, the results would have been more interesting.
Technically, Hector is not a direct rival to Seltos and Creta and infact, is a segment superior to them. However, the vast range of Seltos and the highly competitive pricing of Hector puts them in the same price range. Another very popular SUV in this range is the Tata Harrier, which however, does not get a petrol engine. One of the best driving focused cars under 20 Lakhs would definitely be the Volkswagen T-Roc!
