Kia has revealed the price of the Sonet GTX+ automatic variants of both the petrol and diesel versions to be Rs 12.89 lakh. While the turbo-petrol-DCT is considerably more expensive than its rivals, the diesel-AT is actually great value for money when compared to its rivals.
Kia Motors launched the Sonet sub-compact SUV in India just a week ago. At that time, the Korean carmaker however did not announce the prices of the top-spec petrol or diesel automatic variants. Kia Motors have now revealed the price of the top-spec GTX+ automatic variants of the Sonet, and both the petrol and diesel versions of the SUV have been priced at Rs 12.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Here’s your look at the entire price list of the Kia Sonet.
Engine | HTE | HTK | HTK+ | HTX | HTX+ | GTX+ |
1.2-litre petrol MT | Rs 6.71 lakh | Rs 7.59 lakh | Rs 8.45 lakh
1.0-litre turbo-petrol iMT | Rs 9.49 lakh | Rs 9.99 lakh | Rs 11.65 lakh | Rs 11.99 lakh
1.0-litre turbo-petrol DCT | Rs 10.49 lakh | Rs 12.89 lakh
1.5-litre diesel MT | Rs 8.05 lakh | Rs 8.99 lakh | Rs 9.49 lakh | Rs 9.99 lakh | Rs 11.65 lakh | Rs 11.99 lakh |
1.5-litre diesel AT | Rs 10.39 lakh | Rs 12.89 lakh |
The prices of the Sonet 1.0L turbo-petrol with the DCT gearbox thus now ranges from Rs 9.49-12.89 lakh. Meanwhile, the prices of the diesel-automatic Sonet now ranges from Rs 8.05-12.89 lakh. When compared to other top-spec petrol-automatic SUVs in its class, the Kia Sonet is the most expensive of the lot by a huge margin. It is even about Rs 1.5 lakh more expensive than the Hyundai Venue 1.0L DCT. As for the diesel-AT, the only other rivals for the Sonet are the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 that come with a diesel-automatic powertrain.
The margins are much narrower where the top-spec diesel automatic variants of the Nexon and XUV300 are priced at Rs 12.50 lakh and Rs 12.30 lakh respectively. It must also be pointed out that in case of both the Nexon and the XUV300, the automatic gearboxes are unsophisticated AMTs while the Sonet gets a sophisticated 6-speed torque converter gearbox. That makes a world of a difference and gives the Sonet a great advantage and still promises great value.

To give you a quick recap about the powertrain options on the Sonet, there are three engines and five gearbox options on offer. First, there’s the familiar 1.2L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Then there’s the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque and this comes mated to either the 6-speed iMT gearbox or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5L diesel engine comes in two specs of tune – 115hp/250Nm mated to a 6-speed AT or 100hp/240Nm mated to a 6-speed MT.

Kia has actually managed to undercut the prices of the Hyundai Venue by a little margin for the entry-spec variants. At the top end of the spectrum however, the Sonet is a little more expensive. These prices are also still introductory and are bound to increase later. The Sonet is still very competitively positioned in its segment and should bring huge numbers to Kia. Kia has already received over 25,000 bookings for the Sonet compact SUV.
