Kia Sonet GTX+ Automatic Variants Price To Be Announced Before September End!

Although Kia Motors has announced the prices of most variants of the Sonet, surprisingly, they are still yet to announce the prices of the top-spec GTX+ automatic variants. They have perhaps left it out to avoid the shocker price for them as they will be inevitably expensive.

Kia Motors launched the Sonet sub-compact SUV in India just yesterday for an introductory price starting from Rs 6.71 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Although Kia Motors has announced the prices of most variants of the Sonet, surprisingly, they are still yet to announce the prices of the top-spec GTX+ automatic variants of the Sonet. We believe Kia Motors left out these variants to avoid the shocker price for them as they will be inevitably expensive. Kia Motors will be announcing the price of the GTX+ automatic variants of the Sonet towards the end of this month.

These variants in question are the GTX+ Turbo-petrol DCT and Diesel-automatic variants, both of which will be the most expensive variants in the Sonet’s lineup and also in the segment. We believe the top-spec automatic variants will most likely be launched for a price of Rs 12.99 lakh and that’s already a mid-spec Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos price. However, it has to be acknowledged that both the petrol and diesel engines are getting a sophisticated automatic gearbox for that money and that the price is indeed justified.

As for a quick recap of what’s under the hood, the Kia Sonet gets three engine options and five gearbox options. First, there’s the familiar 1.2L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Then there’s the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque and this comes mated to either the 6-speed iMT gearbox or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5L diesel engine comes in two specs of tune – 115hp/250Nm mated to a 6-speed AT or 100hp/240Nm mated to a 6-speed MT.

The top-psec GTX+ variant also comes fully loaded with many segment-first features and that again justifies its premium price positioning. Some of these features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with in-built navigation and Kia’s Uvo connectivity suite, perfumed air purifier which Kia claims even offers virus protection, auto climate control, a sunroof, auto headlamps, cooled wireless phone charging, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre-pressure monitor, and safety equipment like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, hill assist control (HAC), vehicle stability management (VSM) and brake assist. The Sonet also offers drive modes and traction modes in the automatic version.

The Kia Sonet is available in two trim lines – GT Line and Tech Line. However, unlike the Seltos, the variant lineup of the Sonet is much simpler. Under the two broad trim lines, there will be six variants on offer – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+. There are five variants under the Tech Line while the GT Line comes in a single fully loaded GTX+ variant. The GT Line and the Tech Line are also differentiated by subtle cosmetic enhancements on the outside for the GT Line and also different color schemes for the interiors.
