Kia Sonet Launched With Price Starting From Rs 6.71 Lakh!

The Kia Sonet has been priced from Rs 6.71 – 11.99 lakh and although these prices are only introductory, it already undercuts the price of the Hyundai Venue. The diesel-AT variant has also been priced at an extremely competitive Rs 10.39 lakh.

Kia has finally launched the Sonet sub-compact SUV in India for an introductory price starting from Rs 6.71 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Sonet is the newest entrant in the highly competitive sub-compact SUV space but it already has a lot going on for itself. With a stunning exterior design and interiors to match along with a long list of features, the Kia Sonet could now very well be the one-stop-shop in the sub-4m SUV space. With a very attractive pricing, Kia has a winner on their hands. Here’s a look at the variant-wise price of the Kia Sonet.

Kia Sonet

1.5-litre diesel MT Rs 8.05 lakh Rs 8.99 lakh Rs 9.49 lakh Rs 9.99 lakh Rs 11.65 lakh Rs 11.99 lakh
1.5-litre diesel AT Rs 10.39 lakh

Just like the Seltos, the Kia Sonet too will be available in two trim lines – GT Line and Tech Line. However, unlike the Seltos, the variant lineup of the Sonet is much simpler. Under the two broad trim lines, there will be six variants on offer – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+. There are five variants under the Tech Line while the GT Line comes in a single fully loaded GTX+ variant. The GT Line and the Tech Line are also differentiated by subtle cosmetic enhancements on the outside for the GT Line and also different color schemes for the interiors.

The Kia Sonet will be offered with the same powertrain options as the Hyundai Venue. First, there’s the familiar 1.2L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Then there’s the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque and this comes mated to either the 6-speed iMT gearbox or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5L diesel engine comes in two specs of tune – 115hp/250Nm mated to a 6-speed AT or 100hp/240Nm mated to a 6-speed MT.

Obviously, the expansive features list on the Sonet has to be a talking point. So here’s all the features you get on the top-spec variants of the Sonet – 10.25-inch touchscreen with in-built navigation and Kia’s Uvo connectivity suite, perfumed air purifier which Kia claims even offers virus protection, auto climate control, a sunroof, auto headlamps, cooled wireless phone charging, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre-pressure monitor, and safety equipment like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, hill assist control (HAC), vehicle stability management (VSM) and brake assist. The Sonet also offers drive modes and traction modes in the automatic version.

Kia has actually managed to undercut the prices of the Hyundai Venue by a little margin for the entry-spec variants. At the top end of the spectrum however, the Sonet is a little more expensive. These prices are also still introductory and are bound to increase later. The Sonet is still very competitively positioned in its segment and should bring huge numbers to Kia. What’s also worth noting is that the diesel-AT variant has been priced at Rs 10.39 lakh, available in a mid-spec HTK+ trim. That’s tremendous value for money as its the only diesel-AT SUV in this segment. Kia has already received over 25,000 bookings for the Sonet compact SUV.
