Audi has dropped a teaser for their upcoming most affordable product in India, the Q2, after a streak of high profile launches. The Q2 will however come to India as a full import and will not be locally manufactured.
After a streak of high profile launches – Q8, A8L, RS7 and the RSQ8 – Audi is finally bringing a more affordable product to India this month and that’s the Q2 SUV. The Audi Q2 will be the new entry point into the brand in India as it will sit even below the Q3. Audi has now dropped a teaser for the upcoming Q2 SUV in India and it is expected to hit showrooms in September itself. The launch thus couldn’t be very far away. Audi gave the Q2 a facelift abroad just last week but from the teaser, it does not seem like that’s on the cards for India. Instead, we will be getting the pre-facelift model.
The teaser video does not reveal much of the car though. It gives us glimpses of the windshield, an ORVM, the air dams in the front bumper and the tail light. It is in fact the tail light which is the biggest giveaway that this is the new Audi Q2. Although this is going to be Audi India’s new entry point into the brand, it will not be locally manufactured here. Instead, the Q2 will come to India as a full import, utilizing the government’s provision which allows carmakers to bring as many as 2500 units of a car as imports and then sell here without the requirement of homologation.
Obviously, the Audi Q2 is targeted at a much younger audience and those who are looking to buy their first luxury car in India. It will be readily identifiable by its smaller footprint than even the Audi Q3. But it sure has the Audi DNA in terms of design. The face gets a large single-frame grille flanked by LED headlamps on either side. There’s also generous body cladding all around but the tail lamps are squarish, quite unique for an Audi.

On the inside, the Audi Q2 has interiors similar to the previous-gen Audi A3 sedan and honestly, we are not complaining. Thankfully, the infotainment system is controlled via a swivel wheel on the center console and Audi hasn’t put their dual-infotainment screen layout here in the Q2. You also get physical buttons and dials for the climate controls. Some of the highlight features would include Audi’s MMI infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, and connected car technology. It also gets Audi’s virtual cockpit system.

The Audi Q2 will be powered by a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine in India, the same that powers the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace. The engine produces 190hp and 320Nm of torque and it will come mated to 7-speed dual clutch transmission along with Audi’s quattro all wheel drive system. Audi claims a 0-100 kph time of just 6.5 seconds and top speed is rated at 228 kmph. When launched, the Q2 will have no direct rivals in India as it will sit below the Mercedes Benz GLA and the BMW X1.
