The next-gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio slated for a launch next year is an all-new car from the ground up with fresh styling, increased dimensions, more powerful engine and a more features as well.
Just a couple of days ago, we reported to you with spy images of the next-gen Alto. We also know that Maruti Suzuki has been working on the next-gen Celerio for some time as well and it has now been spied testing for the first time. Maruti Suzuki has now started testing the car on our roads and it is slated for a launch sometime next time. The current-gen Celerio has been on our roads for six years now but it still continues to clock in some good sales numbers each month, irrespective of newer and modern competition.
The second-gen Celerio is an all-new car from the ground up and not just a mere facelift. This second-gen model will boast of a completely new styling, although we cannot comment about it much at this point of time as the spied test mule is heavily wrapped in camouflage. What we do know is that the second-gen Celerio will sit on the Heartect platform, the same that underpins the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
We also know that the second-gen Celerio will be significantly bigger than the model it replaces. According to reports, it will have a longer wheelbase and a wider cabin and the increased dimensions can somewhat be made out from the spy shots as well. The Celerio will boast of a completely new interior design as well. Details are scarce currently but its safe to assume that it will share a lot of parts with other Maruti Suzuki cars and higher trims of the Celerio will also come with the latest iteration of the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system.

There will be major updates under the hood as well. While the current-gen car is solely powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine, the new Celerio will get two engine options just like the Wagon R. The 1.0-liter petrol engine will obviously be retained but there will likely be a more powerful 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine as well. Transmission options will continue to include the 5-speed manual and the AMT automatic gearbox as well.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio competes against the likes of the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Santro. However, with its increased dimensions, more powerful engine and a more spacious and feature equipped cabin, it could also give some competition to the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10. Obviously with such a lot of updates, prices of the Celerio is also expected to go up by a fair margin.
