The launch of the next-gen Hyundai i20 is just round the corner, scheduled for sometime in November around the festive season. Hyundai has been spied testing the next-gen i20 numerous times on Indian roads, and now, select dealerships have already started taking bookings for the upcoming hatchback for a token amount of Rs 25,000. These bookings are however still unofficial and only applicable at the dealership level in select cities. You’ll actually have to go to your local Hyundai dealership and check if they are accepting pre-orders.

As for online bookings, that will only start once Hyundai has officially opened bookings for the next-gen i20. This will be Hyundai’s forth biggest launch of the year and one that is being hugely anticipated as well. It sports a plethora of upgrades ranging from new dimensions, refreshed design, new engines and tons of feature upgrades. The stance of the new Hyundai i20 feels more aggressive and sportier. While the silhouette of the new hatch will remain quite similar to the outgoing one, some design bits including sharper and bolder lines will be new.

On the inside, there’s going to be a new four-spoke steering wheels which is quite identical to the one on the India-spec Creta SUV. The steering features controls for the audio system, the cruise control and also for a new fully-digital instrument cluster. The 10.25-inch digital instrument console even changed color depending on the selected drive mode – it turns blue for Normal, green for Eco, and orange for Sport. It remains to be seen if the drive modes make it to India. The dashboard also gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system which stands. connected with the instrument binnacle.

Currently, the Hyundai i20 only comes with a 1.2L petrol engine as its 1.4 Litre diesel unit was discontinued. The new model will continue with the 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine. New additions will include a 1.0 Litre turbo petrol and a 1.5 Litre turbo diesel engine. The three-cylinder turbo unit will come from the Nios and Aura Turbo, producing 100 PS and 172 Nm of peak torque. There are reports of it getting a manual gearbox along with the option of a DCT. The 1.5 Litre diesel unit offers 100 PS and 240 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 6-speed MT. If Hyundai offers the diesel-auto combination, it would be the first in its segment.

The Hyundai i20 is one of the original and oldest premium hatchbacks in the country. It was only much later that a lot of newer manufacturers have entered the segment and its quite competitive now. The i20 has always remained a great value for money offering and with this generation update, its even more so. In terms of pricing, the new Hyundai i20 will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Volkswagen Polo, the Tata Altroz, Ford Figo and Honda Jazz.
