Tata Harrier Sees A 167% Growth In Sales; Beats MG Hector Too!

In the month of August, Tata Harrier recorded a 167% growth in Y-o-Y sales, becoming the current best selling SUV in its space.

Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500 are currently battling out in the premium SUV category. All these four are priced between Rs 13 Lakhs up to Rs 25 Lakhs, the Compass being the costliest of the lot. After seeing MG Hector occupying the position of the best selling car of the segment, Harrier has now overtaken it.

2020 BS6 Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier saw a sales growth of 167% in comparison to August 2019, which is the highest of any SUV in this segment. Last year, it registered 635 units whereas in August 2020, Tata sold 1694 units of the SUV. In comparison, 1366 units of MG Hector and Hector Plus combined were sold last month.

Hector saw a drop in the sales by 32% in comparison to it registering 2018 units last year alone. In the case of Harrier, the addition of an automatic gearbox has definitely worked out. Its AT variants were launched towards the starting of the year, however most of the deliveries commenced after the lockdown was eased.

MG launched the Hector Plus just 2 months back, which gets an additional sixth seat or better, a third row. There are two captain seats on every row for your comfort. However, our dealership sources suggest that the waiting of Hector Plus is still high. As for the Hector, its waiting period is under a month.

Harrier and Hector share the 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine that is good for 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. While the Harrier comes with a diesel engine only, Hector offers a petrol, petrol-hybrid and a diesel motor. Harrier comes with manual and AT options whereas Hector gets an automatic gearbox only with the petrol engine.

Prices of Harrier commence at Rs 13.84 Lakhs up to Rs 20.3 Lakhs. Hector is priced from Rs 12.83 Lakhs to Rs 17.88 Lakhs. The Plus variants demand up to Rs 65,000 over the regular Hector variants.
