Toyota has launched the Urban Cruiser in India today, with the price ranging from Rs 8.40 lakh to Rs 11.30 lakh. Yes, it is marginally more expensive than the Vitara Brezza but will have a more affordable ownership cost.
Toyota has launched the Urban Cruiser in India today, with its price starting from Rs 8.40 lakh and going up to Rs 11.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Urban Cruiser is a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza-based sub-4m SUv and Toyota had already opened bookings for the Urban Cruiser earlier last month. You can book the Toyota Urban Cruiser at any Toyota dealership or even at the company’s official website and the booking amount has been pegged at Rs 11,000. The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available in three variants – Mid, High and Premium – and here’s the variant-wise price list.
Variants | Urban Cruiser MT | Urban Cruisr AT |
Mid | Rs 8.40 lakh | Rs 9.80 lakh |
High | Rs 9.15 lakh | Rs 10.65 lakh |
Premium | Rs 9.80 lakh | Rs 11.30 lakh |
The Toyota Urban Cruiser is essentially a badge-engineered Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza but this time, Toyota has showed more effort than they did with the Glanza-Baleno affair. Although the changes are only to the ‘soft’ plastic parts, it brings about a noticeable difference in the look of the car. And despite no sheet metal changes, the Urban Cruiser does a great job in looking like a mini Fortuner. The twin-slat grille with its angular chrome frame is clearly inspired by the Fortuner and so are the fog lamp housing on the lower bumper. The side are rear profile are largely identical to the Brezza.
On the inside, there are no changes in the design or the features offered. The Urban Cruiser however comes with a dual-tone dark brown finish to the upholstery compared to the Brezza’s grey and black layout. The top-spec Urban Cruiser gets features like LED fog lamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an auto-dimming inside rear view mirror, cruise control, steering-mounted controls, keyless entry and go, automatic air-con and automatic wipers. The Urban Cruiser is however not offered in a bare-bones ‘base’ variant and even the entry-level Mid variant comes pretty well equipped indeed.
Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser is powered by the same engine as the Brezza. It thus gets the 1.5L, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options includes the same 5-speed MT and 4-speed torque converter automatic. The mild-hybrid system -featuring auto idle start-stop and torque boost – is offered only with the automatic variants on the Urban Cruiser, just like the Brezza. ARAI-rated fuel efficiency for manual variant of the Urban Cruiser stands at 17.03kpl, while the automatic variant posts a higher 18.76kpl.

Toyota is offering six single-tone color option on the Urban Cruiser – White, Grey, Silver, Brown, Blue and Orange. There are also three dual-tone color options – Rustic Brown/Black, Spunky Blue/Black and Groovy Orange/White – reserved for the top-spec variant only. Compared to the Brezza, each of the manual variants of the Urban Cruiser are Rs 5,000 more expensive than the Brezza counterpart. As for the automatic variants, the ‘Mid’ variant is Rs 5,000 more expensive than the equivalent Brezza while the High and Premium variants are Rs 15,000 more expensive respectively.

Compared to its rivals in the compact SUV segment, the Urban Cruiser is neither the most expensive nor the most affordable, but it sits comfortable in between. Just like the Glanza, the Urban Cruiser is also has a lower ownership cost than the Vitara Brezza. Toyota will be offering a 3year/1,00,000km warranty, as opposed to the 2 year/40,000km on the Vitara Brezza.
