Volkswagen Closes Bookings for T-Roc in India; Sold Out for 2020!

Only 1000 units of the Volkswagen T-Roc were allotted for 2020 under the 2500 car import rule and with all units sold out, VW has now closed bookings for the T-Roc. When brought back next year, it could be launched at a higher price.

Volkswagen have announced that they have closed bookings for the T-Roc for 2020. The VW T-ROC came to India via the CBU (completely built unit) route under the government’s 2,500-units rule without the need for homologation. Out of these 2,500 units, only 1,000 units were allotted for the T-Roc, all of which have now been sold out. Deliveries of the already booked units continue to take place gradually. Volkswagen had launched the T-Roc in India in March 2020 just before the lockdown for a price of Rs 19.99 lakh.

Although expensive, it’s not the priciest among its competitors. The T-Roc rivals the Jeep Compass and the Skoda Karoq. Although the Compass has a much lower starting price than the T-Roc, it also goes on to be much more expensive for its top-end trim. As for the Karoq, it’s priced at Rs 24.99 lakh which is quite more expensive than the T-Roc. What has also worked in the T-Roc’s favor is its packaging.

The T-Roc boasts of a very stylish design with a more crossover approach than an outright SUV. The highly raked A- and C-Pillars make a great style statement and its feature packed on the inside with a very modern and progressive approach. Speaking on the occasion, Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “We are thrilled with the response received for our carlines – T-Roc & Tiguan Allspace. It is a testament of customer acceptance on our SUVW offensive strategy. Keeping this momentum, we are excited as we prepare for our next big SUV – the Volkswagen Taigun.”

Volkswagen offers the T-Roc in India in a single fully loaded trim and so it comes equipped with all the goodies you could wish for. That includes 8.0-inch touchscreen (that is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible), full-LED headlamps and tail-lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, ‘Vienna’ leather seats and Cruise Control. Standard safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a rear parking camera.

The Volkswagen T-Roc is powered with just one engine option in India. It gets a 1.5 Litre turbo-petrol TSI engine that produces 150bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The same engine is also offered on the Skoda Karoq in the exact same spec of tune. In comparison to the Jeep Compass Petrol, the VW is slightly less powered as the Compass produces 161bhp from its 1.4L petrol engine. The engine in the T-Roc comes mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox which is the only gearbox in option. When VW brings back the T-Roc again next year, expect it to more pricier than now. The positive response could also lead to domestic assembly of the T-Roc in India.
