Check out this drag race between Kia Sonet Diesel and Ford Ecosport diesel, both with a manual gearbox. The results are quite interesting!
Kia Sonet is the latest big launch of the Indian market and is already one of the best selling cars of India. It comes in many engine-gearbox combinations to choose from, including a segment first diesel-AT combo. Here is a quick drag race between the Kia Sonet Diesel manual and Ford Ecosport diesel.
The first round has both of them rolling from a speed of 20 km/hr and then racing. In this round, Ecosport and Sonet both manage to stay besides each other for a couple of seconds. Soon, Ecosport takes the lead and becomes the winner. That indicates Ecosport has a better mid range power delivery than Kia Sonet.

Then the second round is a complete drag race, where both of them start from the speed of 0 km/hr. Here, Sonet takes an early lead which is still very close to Ecosport. The length between both the cars increases gradually and Sonet becomes the winner. In the third round as well, Sonet manages to take an early lead, but the race is halted by a car in the lane of Sonet.
In terms of power figures, both the compact SUVs give out the same 100 PS. In terms of torque, Sonet produces 240 Nm while Ecosport produces 215 Nm. There’s a sizeable torque difference which helped the former in winning the race. Also, Sonet is slightly lighter than Ecosport which helped in better acceleration.
Kia Sonet Diesel-AT combination is offers 15 PS and 10 Nm more than the diesel-manual variant. So, there are chances that it might be even quicker. Other engine options include a 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol with a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT and a 1.2 Litre petrol with a 5-MT as standard. Prices start at Rs 6.7 Lakhs up to Rs 12.99 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).
