Mercedes-Benz has launched the EQC all-electric SUV in India for an introductory price of Rs 99.30 lakh. Its a 407hp electric SUV based on the GLC and has claimed range of 400km on the WLTP cycle.
The long awaited debut of the Mercedes EQ brand in India finally happens with the launch of the Mercedes EQC today. The Mercedes-Benz EQC has been launched in India for an introductory price of Rs 99.30 lakh, ex-showroom. This also gives Mercedes-Benz the first mover advantage of introducing an all-electric luxury vehicle in India. Although Audi, Jaguar and even Volvo had announced their plans of bringing EVs to India much earlier, Mercedes, in typical Mercedes-fashion has dropped the bomb before everyone else.
The Mercedes EQC shares its underpinnings with the regular GLC SUV but it looks distinctly apart. It isn’t the most beautiful looking SUV but buyers won’t be put off by it either. The SUV of course carries some typical Mercedes styling elements like the front bumpers, the curves and lines along the side profile and even the window line. However, it is the face with the large grille and integrated headlights that look a little awkward. The EQC looks the most attractive from the rear profile and is very unique for a Mercedes Benz car. Still, there are better looking electric SUVs around.
Climb into the cabin and there’s no denying it’s a Mercedes, with a lot of common bits like the switchgear and dual-screen display for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Even the center console and steering wheel looks identical to many modern Mercedes cars. It is perhaps only the AC vents with bronze inserts that have been differently designed and look quite attractive indeed. What’s also different are certain trim panels, patterns and the overall setup being slightly inward set. The dual-screens are 12.3-inch in size and feature connected car tech as well. As for other features, its a Mercedes-Benz, so you know what to expect – luxury and pampering is what you get.

The EQC is powered by two asynchronous electric motors – one on the front axle and another on the rear axle – thus enabling four-wheel drive. The two motors work in conjunction to each other and together, they produce 407hp and 765Nm of torque. Power is derived from an floor-mounted 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack that has a claimed range of 400km on the WLTP cycle. Charging times vary depending on what you are charging the vehicle with. A full charge takes about 21 hours via a domestic socket but it reduces to just 10 hours using a 7.5kW wall-box charger that will be provided by Mercedes. A DC fast charger will fully charge the car in just 90mins.

The Mercedes Benz EQC comes to India via the CBU route. It is thus mechanically identical to the global model. It will rival the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace and the Audi E-Tron in India, i.e., when both the SUVs are launched sometime next year. The EQC will be available in Mercedes-Benz showrooms in six cities initially – Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, and also via the brand’s online portal.
