Production-Spec Skoda Vision IN Makes its Spy Shot Debut in India!

While Skoda is still yet to finalize a name for the production-spec Vision IN, it has now been spied testing for the first time. This first test mule is however heavily camouflaged and its hard to tell how close the production-spec car will really be to the concept.

When Skoda debuted the Vision IN Concept SUV earlier this year, we knew this was going to be one of the most exciting upcoming compact SUVs around. Meant to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, the production-spec Skoda Vision IN is slated for a launch around mid-2021. While Skoda is still yet to finalize a name for the production-spec Vision IN, it has now been spied testing for the first time. The Karoq may have already begun Skoda’s India 2.0 journey, but it is the mde-in-India Vision In that will really set the ball rolling for the Czech brand in India.

This first test mule of the production-spec Vision IN is however heavily camouflaged and its hard to tell how close the production-spec car will really be to the concept. Still, going by recent trends of concept cars, you can expect a great amount of resemblance with the original concept. What is evident though is the profile of the SUV and it seems a little low slung than the concept SUV. The upright bonnet however gives it quite an SUV vibe. The round wheel arches, which could be covered with sufficient cladding, are also nicely filled by what looks like 18-inch alloy wheels.

Other design elements which are typical of Skoda cars like the trademark butterfly grille, the swept-back LED headlights and tiny fog lamps inspired by the Kodiaq, will be carried over from the concept to the production-spec car. The front and rear bumpers however may not be as aggressive as they are in the concept. This spy image does not however give us a look at the rear of the SUV. We however expect the design to be largely similar to the concept, save the illuminated Skoda logo and the connecting light bar in the lower half of the tail gate.

We also do not get a sneak peak inside the cabin of the production-spec Vision IN in these spy images. While the interiors on the concept were too futuristic and flamboyant, the production-spec interiors are expected to draw inspiration from from Skoda’s international models. That brings in a multi-layered dashboard effect with a floating touchscreen infotainment system with possibly the inclusion of a sleek 3-spoke steering wheel and a digital driver’s display. The Vision IN is based on Skoda’s heavily localized MQB-A0 platform, their smallest global modular platform.

Under the hood, the production-spec Vision In will be powered by two turbo-petrol engine options: a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI. The 1.0 TSI engine already does duty on the Rapid and is expected to produce an identical 110PS and 175Nm of torque on the SUV. It could come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 1.5L TSI engine meanwhile is expected to produce 150PS and 250Nm of torque, while being mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. This engine already does duty on the Skoda Karoq.

The production-spec Skoda Vision IN is expected to hit showrooms by mid-2021 and it will be priced aggressively, perhaps with a Rs 10 lakh starting price. Currently, VW India 2.0 models such as the Vision IN and Taigun are under trial production with series production likely to commence closer to its launch date. Following the Vision IN, Skoda also has a made-for-India compact sedan in the pipeline as a replacement for the ageing Rapid sedan.
