Reports Suggest Ford is Planning More High-Performance Models for India!

Ford is considering bringing more high-performance models to India including the Focus RS, Ranger Raptor, Bronco and even the Mustang Mach-E EV. These will come as imports and are meant to establish a premium brand image for Ford in India.

While Ford may only be selling humble hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs in India, the American carmaker has quite a few high-performance models up its sleeves that’s on sale internationally. Reportedly, Ford is now planning to introduce a few of its high-performance models here in India. Ford already sells the Mustang in India and the BS6 version of the pony car is set to arrive in 2021. But here we are talking about a few more famed names from Ford’s lineup – Focus RS, Ranger Raptor, Bronco and even the Mustang EV.

Yes, Ford is planning to bring these models from their global portfolio to India. The idea is to establish a premium brand image for Ford in India reemphasize itself as a performance carmaker. Ford’s market share in India declined to just 2% in the first half of this fiscal year. While these high-performance models will surely not bring in the numbers, a premium brand image might just helps Ford’s case with their mass market offerings and bring in a few more buyers.

If the aforesaid mentioned models are brought to India, they will come via the CBU route under the 2500-unit import rule which allows automakers to import up to 2500 units without the need to homologate them. The Ford Focus RS is one of the most famed hot-hatches across the world and goes up against the likes of the VW Golf GTi and Mini Coopers. The Focus RS single-handedly epitomizes Ford’s legacy of making fun to drive cars and is acclaimed widely by enthusiasts and critics alike.

The Bronco is available in both two-door and four-door guises and is essentially a Jeep Wrangler rival. The Bronco is a formidable off-roader with a ladder-frame construction for the foor-door model while the two-door model has a uni-body build. Along with the Bronco, the Ranger Raptor is another very famed off-roader in Ford’s lineup and has a huge fan following across the globe.

Ford is in fact working on the next-generation of the Ranger Raptor that could borrow its engine from the popular F-150 – a 3.0L V6 diesel engine with 255hp and 600Nm of torque. Lastly, Ford debuted the Mustang Mach-E SUV earlier this year and while many may consider it a blasphemy to put the Mustang name on an EV, its a wholly different car. Rear wheel drive, estimated range of 482km, 332 horsepower and 565 Nm of torque, it is faster than the base Porsche Macan. It will be very interesting to see how Ford’s plans of bringing high-performance models to India pans out. As enthusiasts, we are only excited.
