Jeep will be debuting a seven-seater version of the Compass next year which will be based on the facelift of the standard Compass. The SUV has again been spied testing in India and it reveals some interesting details.
Currently in the Indian market, the Jeep Compass is the sole bread earner for the American manufacturer. However, that too has been dwindling with the arrival of newer competition and Covid-19 has made it worse for Jeep in India. But do not worry, Jeep is not going to be another brand exiting India. In fact, they are well on their way of completely revamping their product portfolio in India. The first of their revamped product strategy will be a facelift for the Compass SUV early next year, followed by a seven-seater version of Compass SUV as well.
Now, the Jeep Compass seven-seater has again been spied testing in India. This is not the first time the seven-seater Compass has been spied testing in India but the SUV is heavily camouflaged. On a previous occasion, the seven-seater Compass was spied alongside the facelift for the standard five-seater Compass. The seven-seater version of the Compass will be based on the Compass facelift that will come prior to it and apart from an extended rear quarter, there might not be significant design differences between the two of them.
The mid-life facelift that’s due for the India-spec Compass will be significantly different from the Compass facelift that was unveiled for the international markets some time ago. With considerable sheet metal changes and completely redone interiors, the Compass is up for a heavy makeover. The face will be much sharper with sleeker headlamps, a new grille and new bumpers as well. On the inside, there will be a lot more equipment like connected car tech and there will also be use of more upscale materials. All these updates will naturally be carried over to the seven-seater sibling as the heavy camouflage on the face only solidifies that fact.

It is later next year when Jeep is expected to debut the seven-seater version of the Compass. Likely to be called the Jeep Grand Compass, you can clearly see that the prototype has been stretched post the C-pillar. A previous spy shot also suggested that the seven-seater Jeep Compass could be wearing a heavier body cladding all around that its five-seater sibling. To accommodate the third row of seats, the rear overhang also seems a little longer than its five-seater sibling. The rear haunches seem a little more exaggerated with a new D-Pillar and the window line also seems to be rising towards the rear windscreen along with a new rear quarter glass.

While it’s unclear if the wheelbase of the seven-seater Compass will be longer than the standard SUV, the increased length due to the extended rear overhang will allow some more space on the inside. The Jeep Grand Compass will likely be powered by the same 2.0L MultiJet four-cylinder diesel engine and the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that already powers the current India-spec Compass. The Jeep Grand Compass will be pitted against the likes of the Toyota Innova Crysta, Volkswagen Tiguan All-Space and the upcoming Tata Gravitas and Skoda Kodiaq petrol. A premium of around Rs 1.5 lakhs is expected to be charged for this version of the Compass, over the standard five-seater Compass.
