Fresh reports confirm that Skoda might bring in a premium hatchback that will come in the same price range of Hyundai i20 and VW Polo.
A couple of years back, Skoda had a premium hatchback in India which was actually a sight to look at. Skoda Fabia had its shape very similar to the Yeti and passed off as a sporty and a premium hatch. However, it did not go well with the buyers because of high prices and even costly maintenance.
Seeing the recent growth in hatchback segment, many manufacturers like Tata and Toyota launched their own models. With this, most of the auto companies have atleast one hatchback present in the market. Reports suggest that Skoda is also eyeing the premium hatch segment which usually comes in the range of 5 Lakhs to Rs 10 Lakhs.

Skoda is considering a new hatchback for India which will be a completely new model. The specifications and cost will all be kept as per the characteristics of the Indian buyer. It will be based on the new MQB A0 IN platform that also comes on the upcoming Skoda vision compact SUV.
Very scarce details are revealed now which only confirm the development. Probably after deeply studying the market conditions, Skoda is expected to bring its hatchback in atleast 1-2 years from now. The engine and gearbox options will be taken from the VW Polo, but the platform will be completely new and different.
Possibly, they could bring back the Fabia name or just bring out another model. Expect it to come with premium features similar to what seen on the Polo. Engine choices will include the same 1.0 Litre MPI and the 1.0 Litre three-cylinder TSI that currently come on the Polo. The pricing structure is expected to stay between Rs 6 Lakhs to Rs 9.5 Lakhs.

Skoda’s new hatch will offer a big competition to the Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai i20. While Baleno will still continue as the segment leader, Skoda will have to offer a great VFM product if it wants to grab the second or third position in this list. Interestingly, the global Polo is built on the same MQB A0 IN platform but not the one in India.
