Kia Sonet HTK 1.2 Litre Petrol Real-World Fuel Efficiency Tested – Video

Here is a detailed video where the tank to tank fuel efficiency of Kia Sonet HTK 1.2 Litre Petrol has been done. The figures are amazing!

The base variants of Kia Sonet come with a 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that also comes on Hyundai Venue, Aura, i20 and Grand i10 Nios. Sonet 1.2 Litre petrol claims to offer 18.4 kmpl fuel efficiency figures. Here is a video created by an owner who does a tank to tank fuel economy test of the sub compact SUV.

The owner first fills up his tank full and then, you can see a driving range of 689 kilometres. He then tries to test out the fuel economy in heavy city traffic and even on the highways. After driving exactly 50 kilometres with a mix of both the conditions, the owner comes to fill the fuel tank again, which will give him the exact mileage.

The fuel tank has used only 2.67 litres for this 50-kilometre run, which brings the total fuel economy to 18.73 kmpl! That’s slightly better than the ARAI-claimed figure, making it highly fuel-efficient. If the highway runs would have increased, the economy would have further improved. In this type of test, you fill-up the tank, drive some kilometres and then fill it up again. Divide the kilometres run by fuel refilled and you have your mileage.

ARAI-claimed mileage figures are tested in different conditions but on an empty road and that’s why it is higher. In real-world, the mileage figures usually come down by 20-30%. In very few cases, a lot of owners can match their car’s economy to the ARAI figures, but usually, they do not. While many claim to get more mileage than ARAI figures, that is due to a relaxed driving manner.

Kia Sonet 1.2 Litre petrol engine produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Other engine options include a 1.5 Litre turbo-diesel engine, paired with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed torque converter. The 1.0 Litre turbo motor does not get a manual gearbox but a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT.
