The sub-compact SUV space will soon be graced by another offering but the Magnite is not just another car for Nissan. The Magnite has been entrusted with the role of rebuilding Nissan’s presence in India. At the global preview of the Nissan Magnite, we came away impressed with some really cool segment-first features and of course its styling but it will be the pricing that will be the key to the Magnite’s success. Ahead of its launch, Nissan has now shared the details of the engine, gearbox and variant details of the Magnite sub-compact SUV.

Nissan Magnite Engine Options

Nissan will be offering two 1.0L petrol engine options under the hood of the Magnite. The lower-spec engine on the Magnite is a naturally aspirated B4D dual-VVT 1.0-liter petrol engine that produces 72hp and will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The higher-spec engine is the HRA0 turbo-charged 1.0-liter petrol engine that produces peak power of 95hp. This engine will come mated to either the 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox. These numbers are still not the best in class and the Magnite might be left wanting for some pace. Also, there will be no diesel engine on offer.

Nissan Magnite Variants

Nissan will be offering the Magnite in five variants in India – XE, XL, XV, XV Premium and XV Premium (O). The 1.0L naturally aspirated engine will be offered on all but the top-spec variant. Meanwhile, the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine will be offered on all but the base variant. Additionally, you can also opt for Nissan’s Technology pack which brings in features like wireless charging, air purifier, ambient mood lighting, puddle lamps, and JBL speakers on the top three variants only.

Launch and Price Expectations

Nissan has already commenced series production of the Magnite at its Oragadam facility in Chennai and sources suggest that the price announcement could take place as early as late November. Nissan will be looking to price the sub-compact SUV very aggressively and we are expecting a starting price of about Rs 5.5 lakh for the base-spec XE variant. Top-end pricing of the Magnite could go up to Rs 7.5 lakh for the fully-loaded XV premium variant with technology package and turbo-petrol CVT option. It would then be the most affordable sub-compact SUV in its class and that’s exactly what Nissan needs. Key rivals to the Magnite include the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
