Just when Nissan is about to launch the Magnite in India, Renault has dropped a teaser video of their own version of the Magnite which they will be calling the Kiger. Read on to know everything about another sub-compact SUV coming up in India.
The sub-compact SUV space just never seems to stop buzzing. With the launch of the Nissan Magnite only a couple of weeks away, Renault has now dropped the first teaser of their own upcoming sub-compact SUV, which will likely be called the Kiger. This new teaser previews the upcoming sub-compact SUV in concept form, but much like Nissan did with the Magnite, the production-spec Renault Kiger is expected to be very close to its concept form. In fact, the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite and identical under their skin.
Although its only now that Renault is officially teasing their upcoming sub-compact SUV, we have seen spy shots of the Kiger on test in India on earlier occasions. From spy shots seen earlier, the Renault Kiger looks like a larger cousin of the Kwid. There’s a familiar large Renault grille on the face flanked by split LED headlamps on either side just like the Kwid. In profile however, the Kiger could be largely similar to the Nissan Magnite. The teaser also previews flush fitting door handles for the concept, although that is unlikely to make it to production.
One of the biggest design highlights of the Kiger have to be its split roof spoiler at the rear and it looks very distinctive, particularly with its green highlights for the concept. Those are also featured on the flush fitting door handles. It will be underpinned by the Compact Modular Family (CMF-A) platform. It is the same platform on which the Triber is based and like we have seen with the Triber, Renault will give utmost priority to cabin space with this sub-compact SUV. In fact, the Kiger will be sharing a lot of interior components with the Triber and the Magnite, which also is based on the CMF-A platform.

Renault does not preview the interiors of the Kiger in this teaser video but we have already seen spy images of the interiors of the Kiger earlier. The Kiger is in fact expected to share the fully digital instrument cluster, the climate control knobs, a few more interior trim and surfaces, and even the 8-inch infotainment screen with the Magnite. The layout and design however will be completely different but quality of materials and finishing levels are also expected to be similar. Other cool features such as cruise control, connected car tech, ambient lighting, etc are also expected to be carried over.

Under the hood, the Renault Kiger will be powered by Renault’s 1.0 liter, three cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 72 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is expected to be on offer with this engine. Just like the Magnite, the Kiger will also get the 1.0L three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 100hp and 160Nm of torque. This engine is expected to come mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox along with the option of a CVT automatic gearbox. We expect Renault to price the Kiger quite aggressively as the platform it is based on is pretty cost-effective. Prices are likely to be in the Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh range. It is expected to launch in the market by March 2021 and it will take on the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
