The biggest revelation is the new Mercedes-Benz like twin digital screens comprising the digital driver’s display and infotainment system. Although we already knew the new XUV500 will come with dual connected screens, having set eyes on it for the first time, it really looks very premium. The fact that the screens sit flush on the dashboard – without any instrument binnacle – further ups the premium quotient. These interiors are also a huge contrast to the interiors of the current-gen XUV500.

The interiors seen here could be production-spec as the interiors seem complete. This also could be a higher-spec variant as some previous spy shots of supposedly lower spec variants of the XUV500 didn’t boast of these flush fitting connected screens. There’s a new flat bottomed steering wheel, something never seen on a Mahindra before. Further down the dashboard, there are rather simple looking AC vents and a stack of controls for the HVAC and other features below it.

The other big takeaway from these spy shots is the swivel wheel on the center console with hotkeys to control the infotainment system. The positioning and the swivel wheel itself should make the task of operating these screens fairly simple. We can also see an electronic parking brake, a first for the XUV500. The XUV500 will come with a seven-seat cabin and there are talks of a key focus being on more cabin room, especially in the second and third row. There are also reports about the new XUV500 bringing in ADAS technology, making it the most affordable car in India to do so.

Under the hood, the next-gen XUV500 will come powered by a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine from the mStallion family and the 2.2L mHawk diesel engine, both of which debuted on the recently launched Mahindra Thar. However, both these engines are expected to be mcuh more powerful on the XUV500, producing near about 200PS of power. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic gearboxes. Likely to be launched in the first half of 2021, the new XUV500 is expected to be priced from Rs 13-19 lakh. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and MG Hector.
