Triumph has dropped a teaser of the upcoming Tiger 850 Sport which will be unveiled globally on November 17. It is based on the Tiger 900 platform and is expected to use the same engine but it will purely be a road-biased sports tourer.
Triumph motorcycles is all set to expand the Tiger range of motorcycles as the company has now teased the upcoming Tiger 850 Sport. This new addition to the Tiger line-up will be officially globally unveiled on November 17, 2020. Going by the teaser, the design is clearly inspired by the Tiger 900 range and in fact, its based on the same platform. The motorcycle is however meant to be a dedicated road-biased sports tourer as that is exactly what the Tiger range is missing currently. Let’s further unravel a few more details about the motorcycle.
Triumph already has the Tiger 900 GT in the Tiger line-up, which may be a road biased motorcycle but is still capable of some decent off-roading. The Tiger 850 Sport on the other hand is expected to be a proper road machine. The 850 in the name might suggest you of a smaller engine but it is in fact expected to based on the Tiger 900’s inline triple. This engine produces 95hp and 87Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It remains to be seen if Triumph alters the numbers for the 850 Sport or even tampers with the gearing to make it a more road-focused machine.
As for its styling, its clearly inspired by the Tiger 900 range. The teaser image clearly shows the front fairing and the LED DRLs and they look identical to the Tiger 900. In fact, we expect the rest of the motorcycle to look largely similar to the Tiger 900, except there may be different stickering on 850 Sport to distinguish it from the 900 range. Triumph even used the Sport moniker on the Tiger 1050 that was available a few years ago but the styling of that motorcycle was very different from the upcoming 850 Sport. Being a road-biased machine, the Tiger 850 Sport is expected to feature smaller and lighter alloy wheels. The suspension at both the front and rear should also be fully adjustable to make it better suited for touring. The current Tiger 900 GT features electronic preload and damping adjustment at the rear shock and we expect it to make it to the 850 Sport as well. Unfortunately, there aren’t many details about this upcoming motorcycle apart from what Triumph have shared themselves. We will have to wait until November 17 to find out everything in detail.

More importantly, as a lot of you might have been wondering by now, the Tiger 850 Sport will come to India sometime in India. We say this because Triumph has already listed the motorcycle on their India website. As for its rivals, the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will take on the likes of the BMW F 750 GS and Ducati Multistrada 950 S in India.
