It is not a surprise that after the success that MG has enjoyed with the Hector, it is bringing another mid-size SUV into its lineup. It has tasted success in India and realizes the profitable proposition that the compact and mid-size SUV segment offers. To capitalize on that, the next product on its list is ZS petrol. Now the ZS is already in our market in the form of an EV. However, it is based on the last version of ZS. The upcoming petrol variant will be placed just below the Hector. What are the things that can be expected from MG? Let us find out!

MG ZS Petrol – Exterior
The exterior of the ZS Petrol will be a bit different than the ZS EV because it will be a facelift. The LED Headlamps and DRLs will be a bit sharper and the bumpers will most likely be redesigned for the front as well for the rear. As the case with every EV, the alloys are a key characteristic to differentiate between an Internal Combustion Engine and an EV. The overall dimensions, however, are likely to remain the same as ZS EV. That means 4314 mm long, 1809 mm wide and 1620 mm high, with a 2585 mm wheelbase.
MG ZS Petrol – Interior
The interiors of the MG ZS petrol will not be much different than the ZS EV. There. might be a larger 10.25-inch Digital Touchscreen Infotainment System on offer. It is very clear from the spy shots as well, that the ZS petrol will get a larger panoramic sunroof. There might be differences on the dashboard of ZS in comparison to ZS EV. Apart from that, it will continue with Steering Mounted Audio Controls, Voice Command, as in the ZS EV.

MG ZS Petrol- Engine and Transmission
Internationally, the ZS comes with 3 petrol engine options. There is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit which makes 106 hp and 141 Nm, 1.3-litre turbo petrol making 125 hp and 230 Nm and 1.0-litre turbo petrol producing 111 hp and 160 Nm. We can expect a naturally aspirated and a turbo engine for our market at the least. The transmission options might include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic option. Which engine-gearbox combinations make it to India, remains to be seen.

MG ZS Petrol – Prices and Competiton
Being a product of the mid-size SUV segment, ZS will sit below the Hector. It will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. This will be very challenging for MG because Creta is the highest selling SUV in the country. Furthermore, it will also compete with the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Vision IN. To grab market share for itself will not be easy. But if the prices are set to undercut the competition, e.g., between Rs 9 lakhs and Rs 16 lakhs, ex-showroom, then there is a good chance that people might start opting for the MG.
