Nissan Magnite is powered by 3-Cylinder 1L Petrol and a bit more powerful Turbo-Petrol Engines making 71 bhp/96 Nm and 99 bhp/160 Nm respectively. Now, Magnite having a Kerb weight of a mere 1039 kg is able to draw a lot of performance from these engines. Although the steering is a bit inert, the turbo-powered engine is decent enough to put you back in your seat once the turbo kicks in. Magnite offers a decent ride and handling experience, especially around the corners. The stiff suspension translates to high-speed stability.
The Tata Nexon is offered in two engine options: 1.2L Turbo-petrol making a 120 bhp and 170 Nm. The 1.5L Turbo-diesel, on the other hand, produces a healthy 110 bhp and 260 Nm. Both the engines are equipped with either a 6-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Tata Nexon, being the heavier of the two by a considerable margin, also has more power and torque than the Nissan Magnite to compensate for it. Being a Tata, product the built quality is very solid and the handling is quite decent, especially at higher speeds. The car remains planted because of its weight. The reliability that comes with a Tata product in terms of service network and maintenance is a huge positive for the Nexon.
If driving a bit enthusiastically is what gets you going, then Tata Nexon has a slight edge in terms of driveability.

Magnite gives a rather impressive 20 kmpl mileage with its 1L Turbo-Petrol and a healthy 18.75 kmpl mileage with the naturally aspirated engine. The figure falls slightly at 17.70 kmpl mileage with CVT Automatic. Incidentally, the Tata Nexon falls behind in mileage considerably, if you consider the turbo-petrol engines of the two at 17 kmpl in comparison to 20 kmpl of the Magnite. The difference in the automatic is a bit less, although Magnite has an edge here as well.
So, if mileage tops the list of things you want from your car, then Nissan Magnite wins it fair and square.

Both Nissan Magnite and Tata Nexon are almost similar in length and hence, the wheelbase. But when it comes to width and height, Tata Nexon is significantly wider and higher of the two. With a muscular stance, it won’t be wrong to say that the Nexon looks the more SUV of the two.

Nissan officially calls Magnite: Bold and beautiful and that is precisely what Magnite’s exteriors are. The white beltline on the sides gives it a distinct side profile. The Y-shaped LED tail lamps and the new Nexon moniker written across the rear differentiates it from the outgoing model.
When it comes to looks, both these SUVs have distinct looks but the rear of the Magnite looks better designed and organised than that of the Nexon. But then again, looks are subjective!

The three-layered dashboard design with soft-touch materials and textures accentuate the cabin feel. The Nexon offers convenience features like Automatic Projector Headlamps with LED DRLs, Digital Instrument Cluster, 7-inch Touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Tata’s very own iRA- Connected Car Tech, Sunroof, Automatic Climate Control with Xpress Cool function, Keyless Go and Cooled Glove Box. Securing a 5-star in the Global NCAP would not have been possible without the safety tech like Dual Front Airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP with Electronic Traction Control, Roll-over Mitigation, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill-Hold Control, Driving Modes (Eco, Sport and City), Brake Disc Wiping, Cruise Control, ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts and Rear Parking Camera with Sensors.
The Nissan Magnite and Tata Nexon are both well-equipped with a lot of tech, safety and convenience features. We feel that the Magnite offers you more for your money as compared to the Nexon. If, however, safety is your main concern, then the Nexon offers much more safety kit as standard than the Magnite.
Which one to pick?
Both these cars are big on features, driving experience and comfort. If you are someone who is looking for a great value for money deal, which includes decent function and practicality, along with an added bonus of great mileage, then you should go for the Nissan Magnite. But if you want a more engaging driving experience, a strongly build car and cabin and a ton of safety kit, then you can spend a bit more and get all those features in the newly facelifted- Tata Nexon.
