Jeep announced that it will launch 4 new products within the next 2 years. This includes locally assembled Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, the 7-seater Compass and the recently launched updated Compass. Whether this boosts Jeep’s sales in India after this update, in particular, we will find out very soon. Now, the upcoming Grand Cherokee L has been launched internationally with ”L” implies the long-wheelbase 7-seater version. However, India will get the standard Grand Cherokee only. Jeep Grand Cherokee L – Exterior
If we talk about the looks, it is Grand in every sense of the word. Jeep being a legendary brand in terms of SUVs globally, we don’t expect anything less from Grand Cherokee. It is a typical SUV that has huge dimensions. The typical seven-slat front grille, large 21-inch alloys, sporty bumper and sleeker LED headlamps and DRLs provide a modern look to the traditional carmaker. Sides are accentuated with a floating roof effect. One really realizes how long and grand the Grand Cherokee is from its side profile.
Jeep Grand Cherokee L – Interiors
When one enters the car, the thing that strikes immediately is the latest UConnect 5 equipped 10.1-inch Digital Touchscreen Infotainment System with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. To complement it, there is a 10.25-inch Digital Instrument Cluster for driver’s information and Wifi Hotspot. There are plenty of convenience features on offer as well including a Sunroof, 19-speaker Macintosh Audio System, Night Vision Camera, a 360-degree Camera which is an absolute must for a car of such dimensions, multi-function Steering Wheel, Adaptive Cruise Control and Heads up Display.

Jeep Grand Cherokee L – Engine and transmission
It will be very interesting to see which engine and transmission options does India get. In the US, the Grand Cherokee comes with two engine and gear options: a 3.6-litre V6 producing 290 hp and 350Nm and a larger 5.7-litre V8 making 357hp and 530Nm. Both these engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, ofcourse, there is plenty of 4×4 equipment including 3 levels of 4×4 options with a rear electronic limited-slip differential. It also gets the option of adaptive air suspension with the help of which, the ground clearance can be varied between 192mm and a massive 276mm. The water wading capacity of the Grand Cherokee is 610mm, the approach angle is 30.1 degrees, the departure angle is 23.6 degrees and the break-over angle 22.6 degrees. With all this off-roading equipment, you can be assured that you can tread any terrain without breaking a sweat.
Jeep Grand Cherokee L – Prices
The Grand Cherokee will be assembled locally to keep the prices in check. Still, it won’t be cheap by any means and we expect a price tag of upwards of Rs 80 lakh, ex-showroom.
