Volkswagen has adopted a product offensive strategy for 2021 in a bid to revive the lost market share in the Indian automobile industry. To give its entire lineup a shake it has planned a ton of launches across various segments to diversify and activate its portfolio, which unfortunately has not seen any new edition for quite a while. All that is about to change this year with plans to launch a mid-size Creta-rivalling SUV, Taigun and an all-new Vento. There have also been reports of another SUV and there is a possibility that it may be the Atlas Cross Sport. But there are spy images of the 5-seat SUV, Tiguan coming to the surface. We have reasons to believe that VW may well bring back a petrol-only powered Tiguan. It was discontinued in its diesel avatar after the implementation of BS6 emission norms. Let us take a look at what to expect from the Tiguan.

VW Tiguan – Exterior and Interior
It is clear from the images that the design language of the Tiguan is the same which is available in the European markets also. Although the overall silhouette remains very sharp and contemporary, there are modern elements to be found. The front is accentuated by the blingy three-slat chrome grille and typical new L-shaped LED DRLs with LED headlamps which look a part of the grille. The bonnet is flat with creases on it and also along the sides. The new set of alloys and sporty bumper gives it a typical boxy SUV look. The rear features the L-shaped LED tail lamps as well and the letters Tiguan are stamped across the boot door. The exterior is very much in line with what we expect from a VW, timeless and understated.

The images give us a sneak peek of the interior as well. It features a flat-bottom steering wheel with controls and a large digital touchscreen Infotainment System in the centre. We do expect it to come with all the latest connectivity features including Bluetooth and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a glimpse of the Digital Instrument Cluster as well which might feature a crisp display along with the Digital Cockpit Setup. We can expect a Panoramic Sunroof with a car of this segment and a ton of other convenience and safety features.

VW Tiguan – Engines, Prices and Rivals
VW Tiguan might come with two petrol engines to compensate for the lack of diesel. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol (TSI) will make 150hp and 250Nm and the larger and more powerful 2.0-litre TSI will make 190hp and 320Nm. The smaller engine might be offered with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic and the larger might come paired with a 7-speed DSG (DCT) transmission. It will be a CKD unit that will be assembled in India and the prices could start from Rs 23 lakh mark. The Rivals will include the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross and Skoda Karoq. If it does eventually launch in this segment, it will surely be an exciting year for Volkswagen’s Indian journey.
