Hyundai has made the Creta the highest selling SUV in the country by quite some margin. Creta has become a household name in India ever since it was first launched back in 2015. The mid-size SUV segment saw an astronomical increase in sales around that time and has continued till now. As a matter of fact, now, the sales of compact and mid-size SUVs are the fastest in the Indian automobile industry. This is because of people’s attraction towards bigger and affordable (compared to full-sized SUVs) SUVs. The trend is continuing strong and some of the car manufacturers are even inventing sub-compact SUV segments in India, like the concept of micro SUVs. Tata Hornbill (HBX) is the upcoming SUV in that segment. It is safe to say that SUVs have taken over almost every car segment in our market. With such competition, it is quite an achievement to be the highest-selling SUV in the country. Clearly, the Creta must’ve done something right. Let us take a look at the growth numbers for Creta and what it offers.

Hyundai Creta – Sales Report
Hyundai Creta (current-generation) has sold over 1.20 lakh units in just one year of its launch. Over 60% of these are diesel sales. It was launched in March 2020 and has enjoyed success since the very first month. Another important statistic related to the Creta is that it has sold over 5.8 lakh units since the inception of the model. The numbers are even more impressive if we consider the export data. Hyundai has shipped over 2.16 lakh units of the Creta overall. These are all testaments to the success that Hyundai has received with this product. In February 2021, Hyundai sold over 12,400 units of the Creta and this number was almost the same even in the month prior to that. This shows the consistently impressive sales figures for Creta.

Hyundai Creta – Rivals
Observing the success of the Creta, other carmakers have also tried to compete with this product. This includes Hyundai’s sibling Kia, which made its India debut with the Creta-rival directly, in the shape of Seltos. It was also well-received by the customers, although it was not able to maintain that level of growth over the months. The growth of the Seltos is still strong. Thereafter, MG launched its Hector in India which boasted of being India’s first Internet car. It has also become one of the popular SUVs in our market. Tata has its feature-rich Harrier competing against the Creta. Yesterday, we saw the Skoda Kushaq unveiling which will be a direct rival to the Creta once it is launched in June. Upcoming SUV based on the same platform as the Kushaq, VW Taigun will also challenge the top spot of the Hyundai Creta. It will not be wrong to say that Creta has its work cut out.
