The range-topping SsangYong Rexton has been given a facelift for 2021 and is available to buy now in the UK.
SsangYong’s flagship seven-seater SUV has received a hefty makeover with a new look grille, front bumper and rear bumper. Elsewhere, existing styling cues have been retained, such as the distinctive ‘hump’ over the rear wheel arch - a design shared with the smaller Tivoli SUV.

SsangYong has decided to ditch both the six-speed manual and the Mercedes-sourced seven-speed automatic transmission that were offered in the pre-facelift model in favour of a new seven-speed auto from Hyundai. This is the only gearbox offered from launch, with no replacement for the old manual option.
There’s also now only one engine available in the Rexton - a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. While it’s the same basic engine used in the pre-facelift model, power has risen from 182bhp to 199bhp and torque now stands at 441Nm. 0-62mph is dealt with in 11.9 seconds and the Rexton will achieve 32.9mpg on the WLTP combined cycle.
The Rexton has a part-time four-wheel drive system. This means power is sent to the rear wheels during normal driving but if the front wheels should lose grip then the four-wheel drive system will be engaged.
SsangYong has removed the entry-level ELX model from the Rexton lineup, replacing it with the new Ventura - which gets 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, dual zone climate control and a 12.3-inch digital console. There’s also an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Upgrade to the Ultimate trim level, starting from £40,665, and you’ll get a 9.2-inch HD screen with a Tom Tom sat-nav, a rear-view camera with 3D 360-degree monitoring and premium leather. Both versions are covered by SsangYong’s seven-year/150,000-mile warranty.
