Magnite Propels Nissan To Over 4,000 Sales In February 2021 – Grows By Over 300%!

Nissan has had a tough run in our market for a long time now. It tried to bring decent products at affordable prices recently but somehow didn’t enjoy as much market share as it would’ve liked. In a bid to change all that, Nissan went all-in with its remarkably affordable compact SUV, the Magnite. Launched in December 2020, Magnite took the automobile market by storm with aggressive pricing which undercut almost all the premium hatchbacks in the country, in addition to all the compact SUVs. Nissan also stated that the aim was to attract customers who are probably looking to buy a premium hatchback and give them an SUV at the same price instead. This was a smart move considering the general trend with the buyers of going for small SUVs.

Sales Report – Nissan Magnite

Magnite was launched keeping these things in mind. So, when it was launched in December and the prices were announced, it was no surprise that it will gather massive sales, at least in the initial few months. That was confirmed by January sales figures, which indicated a jaw-dropping 184% sales growth on a YoY basis. The prime reason for that was the Magnite. The demand has been very strong and the SUV commands waiting times at the moment. Nissan is trying hard to keep up with the demand and reducing waiting times. The Japanese carmaker has received over 40,000 bookings for its compact SUV to date and delivered over 6,000 units already. The number of sales for the month of February has crossed the 4,000 units mark which signifies over 300% increase in the sales. Again, the Magnite is chiefly responsible for these numbers.

However, with the launch of its sibling compact SUV, the Renault Kiger, it will be very interesting to see if it is able to eat away some of Magnite’s market share in the future. The Kiger is essentially the rebadged Magnite under the Renault banner and therefore, is even more affordable than the Magnite. But unlike Nissan, Renault has other successful products also, which are contributors to its volumes. This includes the Kwid and Triber, in addition to Duster.

Nissan Magnite – Engines and Prices

Nissan Magnite is powered by 3-Cylinder 1L Petrol and a bit more powerful Turbo-Petrol Engines making 71 bhp/96 Nm and 99 bhp/160 Nm respectively. There is either a 5-speed manual or a CVT transmissions options available. This gives the buyers options to choose from two engine options and two transmission arrangements. Everyone can choose according to their needs without having to compromise on powertrain options. The prices of the Magnite start at Rs 5.49 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 9.59 lakh, ex-showroom. It might well be just a tad bit expensive than the Kiger, it still is the most affordable compact SUV after Kiger. The appeal of this price point will continue to attract customers going forward.
